My Worcester Bosch is excellent- and so is my mother-in-law's.

So was ours until it developed that leak 😩

We had a Baxi for years but it was not a combi. Now we have Baxi combi and it seems effective. The engineer said that they are only built to last for 10 years, like everything else I guess.

I still have Worcester boiler that is 15 years old and very reliable
I decided to take out boiler insurance with Home serve several years ago and can definitely recommend them.
You don't have to pay for an annual boiler service because if anything goes wrong they come out the same day and repair it.
If eventually they can no longer get the parts they give you £1000 towards a new boiler

My old floor standing boiler was a potterton 30yr old.

I think we are going to go with Baxi. Just need to discuss with hubby.
Price was £500 cheaper than our service engineer quoted.
I think he said we could do a service plan for £14 per month, covers all heating issues, leaking rads,etc, plus annual service.
He also said just to go with a 5yr warranty but I can’t remember why now 🙄I think extra £500 for ten. Oh I do remember, he said it’s the same boiler.

We have a Viessman. Had it four years, it’s great.

Aftercare direct was good too.

We are now looked after by our lovely local plumber.

Btw, I’m pretty sure combi-boilers supply on tap hot water with no tank? We had our tank removed when combi-boiler installed.

We have a Vaillant. Fitted about 3 years ago. Serviced yearly. Very quiet. No problems and house is warm.

Same here. Although mi e is older. Serviced every year.

My boiler is 17 years old and fingers crossed still working fine. Had considered a combi but was told with the number of sinks (5) baths (1) showers (2) a combi would not be a good idea. A DS has a house with 4 sinks 2 showers 1 bath and a combi (3 years old) and its a nightmare if 2 showers are running at the same time. Have you had any issues with volume of water used at one time?

Our is a Valliant and we’ve been very happy with it.

Gas boilers are going to be phased out though. We need to become less reliant on fossil fuel.
I think that if I had to replace a gas boiler, I'd now be thinking about the units which can act as room heaters or air conditioners.

Ours is a year old. Vaillant came out at best price/quality point, BUT the control unit is pants and we are about to change it.

If I had my time again I would def NOT have a combi, my electric and water bills have soared since it went in (my niece said the same with a different make).

Since we have been in a drought, I have kept water containers in my bathroom. To get enough hot water to wash takes nearly 3 litres of wasted water, to get my shower warm enough to step under takes 4 inches in my bath. (More in winter) With a proper tank it was almost instant; the ambient warmth of the house meant it was not being heated from freezing.

Try and get a Central Heating Boiler with a pre heater for water. Otherwise, you could be wasting and running off gallons of water waiting for the water to get to the right temperature.

The bloke I had out yesterday said WB have had a problem with the pipe that drains out through the wall to leak.
When I look at the damage it did to my wall, it’s on mainly on the right hand side, so does make sense.

We replaced an old Ideal with a new Ideal and it seems to be good after 4 years. Annual service by Ideal engineer.

Don't touch a viesman boiler !! Ours only lasted 5 yrs and parts corroded, it would have been too expensive to repair!! Also a year later my daughters which was the same cost her hundreds to repair after breaking down !!

Our combi WB is four years old, hot water almost instant, we’ve had no problems.

we had Vaillant with no problems, now we have Baxi and have had no problems with it either, both got serviced every year

Vaillant are good boilers. DD has a Worcester Bosch and they have had no problems with it. I changed the system in this house to a Baxi combi system in 2023 because I thought it would be more economical and it is if I didn’t have to balance it against the water I waste before hot comes through to the taps. There has been a pressure issue with it every year which I hope has now been solved, but I won’t know until the CH goes on again. I just don’t think that boilers, like most things, are as well made these days as they used to be.

I think your last sentence sums it up, it seems all appliances now are designed to fail within 10 years.

My floor-standing oil-fired boiler was installed in September 1986. It’s serviced yearly, with a gentle touch in deference to its age, and it has seldom missed a beat in the many years I’ve lived here. I’m lucky to use a wonderful family firm of heating engineers, the current “elder” learned the trade from his own father, and now the next generation are proving equally commited to brilliant customer service, and carefully repairing instead of leaping to recommend replacement.

I dread having to get a modern condensing boiler, though I know it should be more efficient I won’t live long enough to recoup its cost in lower oil consumption.
