Combi boiler

ours is an ATAG. Recommended by our longterm service engineer who has one himself.

We currently have a Worcester Bosch boiler, which is serviced annually, with no issues.

Previously we owned a Baxi, which was rarely serviced but ran perfectly for many years, with no issues until replaced.

Yes the chap I was in touch with said visemann aren’t that good, he recommended Baxi.
Viesmann said Baxi after care isn’t that good.
All said don’t bother with WB.
Also WB own Which.
I really don’t know who to believe.
I just want a reliable boiler with substantial parts, easy to get hold of, which will see us out 😅

Actually Viesmann didn’t say that, it was the boiler guy that fits Virsmann said not to go with Baxi.
TBF they are all going to plug their own boilers & put other companies brands down.
It’s a minefield 😩

My father had a WB and it was forever breaking down! I have Glow worm and never had any bother. Gets serviced annually.

Mine is Vaillant. I have 2 actually for each end of the house. (Don’t ask. The system was here when we got here) one is hot water on demand and one heats a tank of water. The only problem I have is having to top up the water every so often on the one that heats the water tank (which means climbing into the loft) which I think happens with most combis.. I do have them serviced yearly.

Last summer I had an Ideal Logic Max Combi2 C24 fitted and it's just had its first service. My very trustworthy gas man recommended it, he who comes out for me in the middle of winter and doesn't charge! 😍

My Worcester Bosch is excellent- and so is my mother-in-law's.

Mine is a Vaillant. I am with Homeserve and the boiler engineers have told me its the best and easiest to fix. Lived here 7 years and think it had been put in 6 years before .

Love having combi boiler very efficient and you only pay for the hot water you use and never run out of hot water. Also on a water meter .

We have a Glow Worm boiler which is now 17 years old, it is serviced every year and our plumber says there is no need for a new one.

My heat engineer recommended Viesmann

However, I have 5 heating zones in my house and everything was far too expensive because zone senders and receivers were involved

I had my Ariston replaced, simply like for like, however the model seems to have been upgraded. It only cost me £1500 and has an 8 year guarantee. and took half a day My age is 78 and 8 years was good enough for me at my age. No contest for me and it works very well and quietly

Vaillant also seems to be a good system. It depends on how deep your pockets are

Are you sure they are both combi boilers and not condensing boilers? Combi boilers only supply hot water on demand they do not heat tanks of water and all the heat and expansion system is contained within the boiler casing.

Over the last 30 years we have had three waves of boilers. Our previous house was long and thin horizontally, one room wide and essentially a chain of 5 rooms. We had a boiler each end of the house, both identical boilers and both WB. The hotwater system one one was never reliable.

After about 15 years we replaced it with two combi boilers with condensing flues. Also WB and both completely reliable for the next 15 years we lived there. When we moved into our current house and had the heating renewed the heating installer recommended Vaillant, and we accepted on the basis that we would rather he was installing a boiler he was familiar with and liked, than one he might not be familiar with or not like.

Again, no tanks as everything is contained within the boiler casing

We have a Vaillant. Fitted about 3 years ago. Serviced yearly. Very quiet. No problems and house is warm.

Will have a look at the Vaillant this morning. I have heard they are a good, reliable boiler.
Have a Baxi chap coming to give a quote this afternoon.

Vaillant are good boilers. DD has a Worcester Bosch and they have had no problems with it. I changed the system in this house to a Baxi combi system in 2023 because I thought it would be more economical and it is if I didn’t have to balance it against the water I waste before hot comes through to the taps. There has been a pressure issue with it every year which I hope has now been solved, but I won’t know until the CH goes on again. I just don’t think that boilers, like most things, are as well made these days as they used to be.

Our WB
developed a leak which could have developed year 7.
I pull out my dryer from time to time to clean, all the wall behind was black. The plasterboard had turned to mush.
Turns out we had a slow leak going on.
Our Gas chap said that WB use a lot of plastic & rubber which goes brittle after a while.
He’s had to swap out a few parts to keep it going.
Now temperamental whether it comes on, or not 😩
We only got a five guarantee back in 2013. Think it’s much longer now.
Still it’s put us off getting another WB

I’d be inclined to go with Viessmann, as they have a good reputation for reliability and build quality, although Baxi is worth considering if you’re looking for something more budget friendly.

I’ve had good experiences with Viessmann, and I’d also compare the warranty, local installer support and availability of spare parts before deciding between it and Baxi.

Actually all the quotes for Baxi on line so far have come out more than Viesmann.
We got a really good quote online for the Viesmann which I would be happy to go with.
Does anyone have experience with Viesmann boilers?

We have Vaillant which we thought was a 2013 model as that's when it was fitted according to the paperwork when we bought this house. We now know it's a 2009 model but it's still going strong and very efficient.

We've had to get Vaillant engineers out to it twice since 2015 and each time they've had replacement parts in their van.

Another heating engineer changed his own boiler to Vaillant, they are well-liked by the engineers because parts are very easy to access, available and easy to replace. I would have had Vaillant if I was not happy with the Ariston 8 year guarantee.

My quote for Vaillant was very much more and that was for boiler only, not for new thermostats for every zone. The thermostats need to be able to talk digitally with the boiler. It would also have involved changing motorised valves etc in the manifold cupboard
