Hello, just wondered if anyone can tell me how to block a poster who has posted me a personal message (pm). I’ve just deleted the message without reading it, but I know others have had pm’s from this poster and feel the said poster is somewhat dubious and have blocked them.

I would like to permanently block this poster if they pm me again, but can’t see how to do it, all that comes up is an option to block all pm’s, which I don’t want to do as I don’t want to block all posters, just this one.

Hope someone can help.

I’ve had a message too and couldn’t work out why. I’ve never seen the user name before and it was in response to a post that didn’t really need a private opinion.

Open the message in "inbox".
There is a clear "block the sender button"

If it's a user name that hasn't been seen before, perhaps it's someone new who hasn't yet realised the aversion for private messaging that many people seem to feel. I used to belong to a couple of book discussion groups (many moons ago in the Dark Ages when everything happened by email) and it was perfectly normal to have private discussions with other members quite separately from the main thread discussions. I made some very good friends that way. But then trolling took off as a popular hobby among weirdos, so the practice seems to have died out. Maybe we have a new member who hasn't yet got the hang of the site. I wouldn't block anyone after only one private message (depending upon what it contained, of course!).

Mine is a very friendly message from someone in San Francisco.

Chester has been very busy again today.
Probably just harmless, but block it, if you want to.

I had two from him, once today and once a week ago?
I thankfully get very few.

Hadnt realised there was a block button to press.

PamelaJ1 Sat 17-Oct-26 17:16:08

Yes it was Chester! Does he/she do this often?

BlueBelle Sat 17-Oct-26 17:20:24

Don’t worry about it we often get messages from unknowns They can’t really cause much trouble just remove and if you are unsure block them Mostly they are just harmless and you don’t have to engage

SpinDriftCoastal Sat 17-Oct-26 17:21:15

I suppose all you can do is delete them unread? But that is still a faff!

They could cause trouble if people reply?

Who knows what goes on on private pms.

I sometimes think a whole other world goes on on them, in more ways than one, if people want them to.

Thank you Willow. I didn’t actually open the message, just deleted it. If I’d opened it, I’d probably have seen the ‘block the sender’ button. I know that for another time, though, should the occasion arise 😁.

I had an odd PM today as well, from someone whose name resembles a piece of bedroom furniture. I deleted without reading.

nanna8 Sat 17-Oct-26 23:27:27

Haha- made me laugh Sue 😃

And it was from this Chester person, so I’ve blocked it..

I had the same message from the same person tonight from San Fransisco...I blocked it ...just strange..

Ah!!! I had one from Chester too, all about what I like to read in the bath (nothing off-colour in it but it was an odd topic to want to speak privately about, so I didn't reply).

BlueBelle Sun 18-Oct-26 04:31:41

I’ve had one from San Francisco a poster called Chestersmiles telling me I was doing a nice thing, from a post I posted a few weeks back (again to do with funerals) It was a legitimate comment about something I did post just strange that it had been and gone a few weeks ago !!!

Doesn’t seem any bad intent (well at the moment) I can’t see what they can do in a private message except try to draw you in to reply and wheedle info out of you which you don’t have to give

grandMattie Sun 18-Oct-26 04:49:05

I had one too. Deleted it. If it happens again, I’ll block it.
If so many us have received one, could it be a robot?

BlueBelle Sun 18-Oct-26 05:29:36

Yes I m sure it could be Grandmatte

Grammaretto Sun 18-Oct-26 05:49:12

I've had one too! I don't feel left out 😉
Mine referred to my reply on a post but wasn't obviously phishing.
I haven't replied and won't now I've read that I'm not the only one.😂🤣
I shall quietly block Chester.

Ashcombe Sun 18-Oct-26 05:52:31

I had a similar message from him/her/it which I blocked and reported. A search revealed no previous posts and the sender did not reveal their real name which genuine posters usually do.

MT62 Sun 18-Oct-26 11:23:52

Yes I have received one, something about a tale about a horse drawn carriage. San
Haven’t opened it. Should I go into settings & delete?

JenniRen Sun 18-Oct-26 11:56:52

I've just received one from said 'gentleman'.

He liked my response to someone's dilemma and asked if I kept a close eye on my cards and transactions. No, of course not 😂

Blocked and deleted but didn't know how to report.
