Hello, just wondered if anyone can tell me how to block a poster who has posted me a personal message (pm). I’ve just deleted the message without reading it, but I know others have had pm’s from this poster and feel the said poster is somewhat dubious and have blocked them.

I would like to permanently block this poster if they pm me again, but can’t see how to do it, all that comes up is an option to block all pm’s, which I don’t want to do as I don’t want to block all posters, just this one.

Hope someone can help.

Chestersmiles, bot or not, has a GN account from which he is stalking and importuning via PM, targeted GN posters.

Chestersmiles hitting on newly bereaved MOnica was inexcusable.

That's why GN should be terminating the account.

Multiple posters claim to have reported its PM activities.

I’ve had one.
Very polite but no need for a PM.
He/She could have spoken to me on the thread concerned.
The conversation was worded in a way that clearly wanted a reply.
I blocked straight away.

I’ve been a member for 15 years and have seen many BOTS come and go.
HQ maintain that they only ban when a member has broken forum guidelines. So far, it hasn’t.
They did ban me once for calling out a BOT for what it was.
A member reported me for offending a BOT.
This member who reported me is just the sort of person who is vulnerable to scams.

Of course there was a need to contact you by PM.
By PM you would have an exchange of niceties until it got to the stage where it would suggest you exchange email address.
Gotcha!!!!

Well yes, definitely.
That’s why I blocked him.

Well I was very suspicious and it seems we aren’t a very trusting bunch!
That’s a good thing.

Jennyren why do you refer to this poster as a man it could be man /woman or bot so maybe ‘it’ is better 🤣

Oreo Sun 18-Oct-26 13:36:36

Or ‘them’ 😁
Anyway, I had one this morning and just clicked on the block poster icon.

Mine is a very friendly message from someone in San Francisco.

Mine too.

Visgir1 Sun 18-Oct-26 13:46:20

I have had two, one this morning. Just deleted them. Noticed if was from San Francisco, my first thought was, it was a Silicone Valley bot as its the home of AI etc or a bored teenager in a bedroom.

😂

I was hedging my bets and being polite, he could be a multi-millionaire who thinks I'm in need of some cash.

It's a Bot.

Chestersmiles was definitely a man to me.
He said he lost his wife to Covid.

Hey folks

Just nipping on to let you know that we’ve erred on the side of caution and blocked that user's ability to post for now.

To echo what’s been said on the thread already, we’d always encourage everyone to take care about how much personal information they share online. If you feel uncomfortable, worried or unsure, please do report it to us and we are always happy to take a look. And you can block PMs if you feel more comfortable with that.

Thank you!

Thank you.

Good to be reminded.

Chester is a man and I am offended he didn't single me out. He wanted to discuss my cat Tara who died three years ago so he must have been lurking since them. Very strange. I thought he was lonely but was glad San Franscisco is a long way away.

The last was how i travelled since I had to stop driving 18 months ago. Goodbye Chester/.

nanna8 Mon 19-Oct-26 08:26:26

Thanks for that, admin. I am not sure what these lurkers get out of it really. Maybe they would be better off on an over 50 s dating app ? 🙂
