I am just really sad right now because my best friend of 45 years just passed away after a long battle of cancer. We were friends since he was a little boy and I he gave me a poetry book so I would like to share with you one of his many poems.

So sorry for your loss Macadia. May your friend rest in peace after their illness. Those poems mean he will live on.

What is it like
to be a tree?
Are they able to think
and know about me?
Do they feel fear
at the twilight of night,
of all that lies lurking,
now, just out of sight?
Do they have loved ones
in their family tree?
Can they smell a flower?
Have they heard a bee?
I'm sure they hate lightning
and thunder with hail
while protecting their birdies,
catching winds like a sail
On Earth, they've resided
longer than you or I.
Without their osmosis,
we'd all surely die.
From them I seek wisdom as they majestically age,
the ones that stay upright post-storms' released rage.
They sing through their branches.
Leaves speak in the breeze.
Mother Nature, so thoughtful,
when provided us trees.

Thank you keepingquiet

He painted this picture of a tree.

He has so many poems in his book. Here is one that might make you laugh (with another of his drawings)

A trip to the dentist
can be quite momentous
for those in need of that care.
Once performed by the barber.
Ill feelings they harbor
for procedures hurt more than cut hair.
If left unattended
teeth might not be mended
and results could end up in you dying
Give booze to kill pain,
drilling sounds fill the brain,
If they said, "Have no fear! they'd be lying
Brushing and flossing is required
Some teeth may have to be wired
together to straighten them out.
Drilling holes for a filling?
The dentist is willing.
and bad molars removed through a bout.
When your teeth are now hurting,
you should never be skirting
the issue of getting some help.
If you've not got a dentist,
don't use an apprentice.
Find a great one by searching on Yelp!

That’s a beautiful poem and such an incredible painting by your friend. You are honouring him and he will always be with you ❤️

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:03:53

on a sadder note:

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:07:02

Thank you LaCrepescule. I really appreciate your kind words. I don't want him ever to die (because I am still in shock and grieving) so I guess I am feeling that if I keep sending his poetry out into the world then he can live forever. Gee. I'm not quite sure how to deal with this yet. I will figure it out soon, I'm sure. Until then, thank you for your kind words while I fumble through this awful time.

((Macadia)) the poems are lovely 💐

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:25:52

This might be appropriate. I attached his painting, again.

PROTECT AND SERVE
Officer, dear officer,
you answer to the call
to save distressed citizens
no matter, big or small.
In youth, sometimes, I feared you.
Sought help in times of need.
When found my life in danger,
response was in godspeed.
Arresting evil criminals.
Defending all the weak.
Providing, with your bravery,
the help that people seek.
So few, that walk among us,
will stand inside those shoes
and serve with humble honour,
to light up red and blues.
Without you, all the lawless
would rule throughout the night,
with no one there to answer
or respond to victims plight.
With you, there is redemption
for plaintiffs that deserve
to sleep at night in safety
while you protect and serve.
With gratitude, I thank you
for sacrifices made
when putting on your uniform
no haste providing aid.
Officer, dear officer,
you answer to the call.
I pray for you and family,
revere the ones that fall.

Thank you hulahoop ! I am glad you are liking them. My little brother (not my little brother) Christopher would be so happy to know that you are enjoying his poems.

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:39:39

I have one more poem to post and then I will save the rest for later. Do you ever want to sit in a boat, afloat, and find the sea?

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:41:35

the sea

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:43:23

Oh gee, now that I read it again it is terribly sad. To me. Again.

I think I would like to be upon the sea with dear Christopher.

JaneJudge Sun 11-Aug-24 10:46:42

I’m sorry about your friend flowers the poems an drawing are special ❤️

EkwaNimitee Sun 11-Aug-24 10:48:10

Macadia what a very talented friend you have lost. You are so lucky to have these lovely mementos of him, painful as his loss is. Thanks for sharing.

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:53:26

He said he wishes he were he. Now, maybe he is he. And I wish I were with him now. That's where I'd like to be.

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:55:04

JaneJudge thank you for your kind words. I am not too terribly sad. I feel him with me. Still laughing, as he always did. Thank you so much. Now I don't feel so alone.

Indigo8 Sun 11-Aug-24 10:55:29

You have a lovely, lasting memorial. I particularly liked the tree poem.

RIP thanks

Cossy Sun 11-Aug-24 10:56:42

I’m so so sorry about your best friend, he has left a wonderful legacy I wish you well. flowersflowers

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:56:53

EkwaNimitee thank you for your kind words. It is strange how I don't really realize he is gone. Mostly, I just want to go with him which is a really horrible thing to wish for but that's how I feel today. I guess I'll have to wait a bit.

MissAdventure Sun 11-Aug-24 10:57:11

Are the pictures all done by your friend, Macadia?
I love those as much as the poetry; particularly the boat

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 10:58:25

Indigo8 thank you so much. So many people love the tree poem! I love trees too. He had a unique way of writing about how they felt.

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 11:01:01

Cossy thank you for your kind words. I should not be the one to receive them because I am nobody. Christopher is the wonderful one. I know he is smiling down on all of us now. The best thing is that he gets to be with his father who was part of the Appollo 11 space mission (not travel but engineering)
