I am just really sad right now because my best friend of 45 years just passed away after a long battle of cancer. We were friends since he was a little boy and I he gave me a poetry book so I would like to share with you one of his many poems.

Hello MissAdventure. I love the boat, too. Probably all of us need to be in that boat sometimes. I love my Christopher. I will post his picture soon so that you can see what a cute little boy he was.

Thank you.
I totally understand about your need to share a little of your friend with us.

Oh he was cute!
Handsome, too.

So sorry for your loss Macadia. It's often said that 'friends are the family we choose' and it has been so in my own case. I'm really enjoying these poems. It would be a great legacy to have them printed for Christopher, and his writing would be spread far and wide, and his memory kept alive.

And he sings! and plays guitar, drums, piano, flute

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 11:14:27

If I missed anyone in my "thank you's" please don't be sad. I'm just a bit tired today (and yesterday, and the day before, and the day before the day before) so I don't want anyone to feel left out but I'm very tired and I really thank everyone for responding because in my town, in my life, I haven't told anyone about this - only you- I don't like to tell anyone if I am sad. Weird, I know. I just try to be pretend-strong.

Macadia Sun 11-Aug-24 11:15:04

Thank you Nagmad2016

You have a lovely, lasting memorial. I particularly liked the tree poem.

RIP thanks

This how I feel too.
Rest in Peace, Christopher flowers

Thinking of you Macadia. 🕊️

This poem by AA Milne helped me when a close friend died.

‘If ever there is a tomorrow
When we’re not together
There is something you must always remember
You are braver than you believe
Stronger than you seem
And smarter than you think
But the most important thing is
Even if we are apart
I will always be with you’

Macadia sorry your best friend died but your talented friend has left a lovely legacy in his drawings and poems and they will live on. I hope his poems will be read out at his funeral as they will remind people what a sense of fun he had but also a sensitive side to him. 💐

I’m so sorry to hear this Macadia . I’ve lost so many dear friends recently and still can’t quite get my head round the fact that I’ll never speak to them again. Your friend was the most lovely amazing person it’s no wonder you feel so sad. Nothing I can say really that will make it better but can I send you a virtual hug? x

Whiff Fri 16-Aug-24 05:37:27

Macadia how are you ? Between the tears I hope you are remembering all the wonderful times you have with your friend and the lasting impact he had on friends and family.

His poems and drawings are lovely. Sorry for your loss - hard to bear- but he’s left you wonderful memories. He must have been a very interesting person and ibviously your very good friend.

Fairislecable Thank you for reporting this, most inappropriate.
Macadia I’m so sorry for your loss but your friend has left you a wonderful legacy. Have you considered getting them published in a book? I’m sure many GN’s would buy it.
The tree poem is particularly lovely and would make a fitting memorial for the Sycamore Gap tree, cut down by those two morons.

One of my three best friends died recently, unexpectedly, and it knocked me off my feet; I felt that a light had gone out in my life. Like you I couldn't quite believe she was gone, but we had her funeral this week, and this quotation really summed up how I feel, and might also be relevant to your very sad loss.

'There are people who die and, with all due respect, you don't lose anything. But (s)he was one of those that when they're gone, you feel it. As if the whole world had become, from one day to the next, a little heavier.' Alessandro Baricco.

Like your talented friend, she too left herself with me, but in her dances and songs. Macadia, a hug from me and condolences. flowers
