My best friend died on Tuesday after a long battle. My heart is broken. I will never see her again. We will never laugh together and never grow old together.

Nearly 4 years after my husbands death I am struggling to overcome the emptiness and find new interests. So if you are doing well, I applaud you. Everything changed for me. I am an artist and an author. I live in the boonies on the west coast of the US. My friends and family are mostly deceased.

Until it happens to you, no one can understand how hard it is to lose your partner, so many firsts to get through. This time of year is particularly hard as my husband died at Christmas. Be kind to yourself, just take a moment, an hour at a time, it does feel as if its unreal at first, gradually and eventually you will make a different sort of life for yourself but it takes time. All these years later I still miss my husband everyvday whilst now enjoying the life I have. I used to think everyone ekse handled bereavement better than I did as I seemed to stumble through.

I’m awake early for no reason at all and just wanted to say keep posting and letting someone know how you’re getting through this, good and bad ❤️‍🩹. It may help others who’ve lost their beloved and you won’t feel so alone when people respond and wish you well x

But deep down inside I think you are screaming, because while you put on a brave face not to frighten your friends away, in fact you still want to cry and cry and cry.

Believe me you will find many on GN who will understand every second of your pain because they have/are experiencing it for themselves.

Even though I still have my DH, I came across your post and felt it needed an immediate response. I will be followed by those who will share your grief and understand it.
