When Sally Curtis lost her husband unexpectedly her life was turned upside down. In her guest blog Going it alone she shares what she's learned from the last year - and offers suggestions to anyone who isn't quite sure what to say or do to help.

Good Morning everyone, haven't we had some strange weather this January, today there was a fantastic sunrise here, very red sky so waiting for the bad weather to start (hope not smile). Toby is growing fast & is a great companion, though hard work at times, well he is only a baby still only 4 months old, but he is a fast learner, he & his sister have a good play every morning when my daughter brings Sika here, usually tires them out then I can get on with things. I hope you are all keeping well & warm this colder weather
brew would be nice if we could have one together but we can in spirit xx

Anyone got the blueprint how to build an ark? smile we are getting torrential rain every day at the moment, lucky though it is rain not snow. Hope you are all keeping safe & well. Try to keep warm & dry xx

Doesn't anyone write on this page any more? Hope you are all safe from all the flooding, we have been lucky here, had a bit of damage with the wind but nothing compared to other places

Grannygrunt, this helped me, and other widows so much last year, perhaps you may get some comfort and advice from the blog and forums.

I wrote the blog for this thread. It is now over 2 years since John died and it is incredible to think how far, in some respects, I have moved on and how little in others and sometimes, when things become too much, I do pose the question 'what is the point?'. I have a wonderful family and a strong support network and that is what keeps me going.
Grannygrunt Even though I don't know exactly how you are feeling right now, I have a very good idea and know you are in a very strange, alien and unworldly place. All I can say is that you have to work your way through the next days, weeks and months at your own pace and do things the way you want to, not how others think you should. I am still on that journey: some days are easier than others, but as I said in the blog, it isn't a place I would choose to be. You will have a huge amount of support from Gransnet, support for which I was very grateful - and still am. I hope you find this helps you too. flowers
