Meghan, but not Meghan

Well it was on the BBC and I love children's books!

I was interested to see what this book was all about so took a quick look. Let's be fair, it is a first attempt.

The illustrations are lovely, very soft almost pastel shades, ideal for gentle bedtime reading. Yawn.

The people are a bit thin and wooden and I was disappointed the dogs weren't in the book.

Now for the rhyming. I'm not sure about the cadence, very contrived. Where are all the commas?
I don't know when to breathe.
The script is tiny, I need two pairs of glasses. Actually, come to think of it the print should be far bigger if it is designed for younger children to read

Would you buy it for your grandchildren? Does it resonate and get any message across? £12.99 reduced to £9.99. Is you want it, please hurry it might just sell out.

surely respect has to be earned

Meghan Markle got her book out just before the book co ordinated by the Duchess of Cambridge was published (today).
There's a surprise.

No annie that is what is important to you, I had very limited contact with my cousins etc, it has had no impact on my life whatsoever.

Anniebach Fri 07-May-21 10:20:42

Surely not ? Meg wouldn’t do such a thing, would she ?

Anniebach Fri 07-May-21 10:21:55

Galaxy no grandparents, uncles , aunts ?

Lucca Fri 07-May-21 10:28:10

It is not always possible to have a lot of contact with extended family. There is the issue of distance for a start.
What is important is that the child experiences love in their home environment however mAny people that includes.

Is MM's book even published yet? I thought it was August or is that Fergie's?
I'm guessing they are at the advertising campaign stage.

I believe their names are Catherine and Meghan

Sorry you’re wrong - their names are Saint and Sinner ?

Ah yes. Like some posters on GN. Some can do no wrong, some can suggest an alternative view and will obviously rot in hell.....

Just referring back to my post of 10:09 hmm

In some respects I think we are coming at all this from the wrong direction. I remember at uni one of the professors saying, "you should read a book without knowing anything about the author" to understand its proper meaning. I'm not sure whether I agree, being a nosy person I like to find out more about the writer and their lives eg. Jane Austen.
That is why I carefully tried to word the title of my thread, Meghan, but not Meghan and it is under Books.
It just seems incongruous to the discussion that every few pages some keep harping back to sneers and snipes at posters giving opinions. Very weird.

Anniebach Fri 07-May-21 10:52:00

I don’t hate Meg, I don’t hate, but I cannot respect a liar

There was no personal observation about Meghan on this thread UNTIL this comment
This thread is nothing to do with children’s books but another nasty mean spirited excuse to carry on kicking Meghan from someone who obviously thinks they know the workings of my mind.
We started out by discussing THE BENCH.

I think I might buy Catherine’s book. I believe it’s a series of photographs taken during the pandemic. Judging by the photographs of her children, Catherine appears to be a very good photographer. I think the book will document a hugely important event, but from the point of view of ordinary people, not politicians. And the proceeds are going to charity.

Well seeing as we are being dogmatic....

That wasn't a personal observation on Meghan, it was a comment on the thread.

Wednesday 09:48. Let the Meghan bashing begin. As predicted.

Can the poor girl do anything right?

Meghan is not a victim of anything.
So she needs no protection.

Anniebach Fri 07-May-21 12:05:10

Is one a girl when nearly 40 years old ? A 40 year old woman yes, a 40 year old girl !

Emily49 Fri 07-May-21 12:08:37

My daughters are still my girls at 40+

Whatever your motives for starting the thread, it certainly became a nasty mean spirited excuse to carry on kicking Meghan - and come on ‘fess up, you knew that would happen didn’t you? It is completely impossible to start a thread on any aspect of her that wouldn’t degenerate into the usual hate fest.

Two grandparents dead before I was born. My one aunt lived a long way away so no real contact. Uncle on dads side lived in another country. But very close nuclear family, still is, regular contact with extended family is not vital or even available for many people, in fact I would say that's the norm in terms of the changes within society. People live different lives to each other. I dont judge people who do have extended family around them so why should we judge those who dont.

Oh, I don’t know about that.

A friend and I, both in our 60’s, were out walking. We met an elderly gent on a mobility scooter. We stood aside to let him pass. “Thank you girls” he called.

We carried on with an extra spring in our step.

Sorry, I have gone off topic here!

annsixty Fri 07-May-21 13:08:24

I had no maternal cousins but several on the paternal side.
Most lived in the same village and sadly most are now dead, however I saw so little of them after early childhood I could have passed them in the street and not known them.
I cannot think of one way they influenced my life!

trisher Fri 07-May-21 13:20:39

Kate Middleton's book released today Meghan's on June 8th. Who grabbed who's headlines?
Great line from Daily Mail
Her long brunette locks were styled into her signature bouncy blow dry style as she placed the book onto the ground.
Is this what's known as mobile hairdressing?
