David Niven - The Moon’s A Balloon and Bring On The Empty Horses.
Jonathan Coe - What A Carve Up.
Betty MacDonald - The Egg And I, The Plague And I, Onions In The Stew.

Captain Corellis Mandolin. One of the few books I have laughed out loud at. It's also very sad too if you don't mind a cry.
I have just been recommended Stanley Tucci's latest book to read alone and laugh out loud by someone who is not known to, I've ordered it.

Another vote for Roddy Doyle. I’ve also read all of David Lodge’s books and found them very funny.

Richard Osman’s Thursday murder club books... especially if you are past 60!
