To be published in January. Oh dear ?

Harry served in the armed forces for eight years and he started the Invictus games. Well done.

He is not forging his own path now, he is exploiting his royal connections to make money.
And Hamlet's final decision, after much agonizing, didn't exactly have a successful outcome.

I can't read 17 pages of comment on Prince Harry! The first page is enough to convince me how much many Gransnetters dislike him and his wife. Almost as if they knew them.

I think my opinion of them is mostly derived from what they have said themselves and chosen to put into the public domain.

They haven’t come over well as people to me.

One of my relatives trained with Harry and liked him in that environment. That’s the extent of my personal knowledge.

Not every post about Harry is negative, GrammarGrandma

Quokka of course it is never right, but it's not the media they are attacking. They used the media to attack Harry's family.

Of course, the new book might be full of love and fond reminiscences about their families. We won't know unless we read it 🙂

Love this comment eazybee.

Well I’m not going to read it Callistemon, but I’m sure I’ll be able to rely on Gransnetters to fill in the blanks for me grin

I wonder is Prince William (now of course the Prince of Wales) exploiting his family connections to make money? After all he is paid very generously for turning up at things-110 engagements, for 106 days in 2021- because of who his dad is.

eazybee Sun 30-Oct-22 11:41:58

The Prince of Wales isn't paid a salary; he has an inheritance and income which comes with duties and responsibilities to pay other people, as well as privileges. And public engagements do not constitute all his work.

tickingbird Sun 30-Oct-22 11:47:13

The Prince of Wales doesn’t get to turn up at things and get paid because of who his dad is. It’s because of who he is! He’s the Prince of Wales!

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 11:48:54

God bless him.

We're lucky to have him.

hmm

Why is he Prince of Wales again? Because of his dad, I think.

tickingbird Sun 30-Oct-22 11:51:01

Well his dad was Prince of Wales and that was because his mother was our dear late Queen. Isn’t it wonderful grin

Quokka Sun 30-Oct-22 11:51:41

Like all young(ish) people striving to make a living he needs to earn a living. So that argument doesn’t hold water.

He especially needs to make money to pay for security for his family. The security he would not need had he not been born a royal. Surely people are aware that this security was withdrawn by his father?

Yes, there is bitterness on both sides. I just wonder exactly why William and Charles seem to have turned against a younger brother and son rather than giving him support to plough his own furrow. Who is hurting who?

It has been suggested for years that our royal family needs pruning. This would have been an ideal opportunity to do that…after all he is The Spare. Fifth in line?

Umm, inheriting millions isn’t exactly striving to make a living

Nor being given further millions to buy a palatial house. I wish I’d had that kind of non-support.

Quokka You forget that before his marriage - and during his engagement and the early days of his marriage, almost everyone liked and admired Prince Harry. his military service, where, unlike Prince Andrew he was liked by those who served with him.

All but a few, felt that his marriage to a mixed race woman, with out intending, represented the multicultural society we are and now the Royal Family was joining it.

In fact everything in the garden was rosy, Until the behaviour of Prince Harry and his wife changed. he decided to cease to be a working royal, he wanted to live in the USA, we were sorry to see him go, but most of us shrugged our shoulders, then he and his wife started whingeing, endlessly whinging, about everything. Lack of money as they signed million dollar contract after million dollar contract. There families, despite families on both sides doing all they could to build bridges - and then they decided to make their living by telling their truths, mostly doubtful and frequently shown to be false.

Can you not see why the utterly disillusioned British people, or most of them, are fed up with the pair of them?

Not particularly.

I can see that no ‘argument’ will prevail to those who consider Harry is the baddy in all this. As is obvious I don’t see it that way at all.

So I’ve had my say and we are all entitled to make up our minds for ourselves - even on issues where our only source of information is the media. And I include myself in that because I’ve never met Harry or Meghan either.

maddyone Sun 30-Oct-22 12:14:10

It’s not dislike of Harry, it’s dislike of his behaviour.

But our only source of information isn’t the media. We’ve had plenty of information direct from Harry and Meghan.

I don’t much like people to use false information in any aspect of life. Things like “we were literally cut off financially”. It’s not only untrue but it must make people distrust you when the facts come out that actually you were given millions.

Or “I had to eat from the Salad bar” when everyone knows that you only get the salad bar if you buy the £20 entree🙄

Does the embroidering of their tale not bother you?

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 12:46:27

I'm having a cup of coffee and trying to decide which is most ridiculous as a criticism of MM.

"Lies about the salad bar" or "the Deal or no Deal bra station."

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 13:38:02

You know the salad bar and the bra station irritated me more than the Royal Family stuff. 😬

It’s that making things up to stir up sympathy or indignation.

And also the stupidity of telling a story that can be proved untrue. If I did that I’d at least make it a good one🙄

Not particularly anti Meghan. I’d get irritated with posters that just churn it out and don’t bother with facts😬

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 13:41:00

I've no idea what he salad bar thing is (don't feel you have to tell me 🤣) but I did look up the bra station.

It's all getting very silly.

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 13:44:04

Oh go on, you do want to know about the salad bar really😬

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 13:50:18

Well I’m going to tell you.

Some American diners have an eat all you want Salad Bar. Being American it has stuff like Chicken wings and ribs on it😬

Meghan said they were so poor that she had to make her meals at the 5.99 salad bar. The catch is you can only have the salad bar if you buy the entree - steak or whatever.

Obviously she’d never actually eaten in one of those.

she should have sent an aide to check out how they work.

I'm saying nothing. Well maybe I will.

Folk can be awfully keen to jump to conclusions about people they don't approve of "making things up" without checking things out in advance.

This salad bar actually costs $5.99. You don't think she was talking about this do you? hmm

Funny how stories get twisted. Meghan used the salad bar as an example of the sort of treat her parents gave her as a child. She said she couldn't remember the cost but it was what they did.
She was writing a letter to support paid parental leave, but god forbid she should try to get anything good done in the US, or that she shouldn't remember every last detail of her childhood. www.newsweek.com/meghan-markle-grew-499-salad-bar-sizzler-all-her-parents-could-afford-1641156
