To be published in January. Oh dear ?

Glorianny Sun 30-Oct-22 14:04:06

Incidentally I believe in a lot of these places if the adult buys a meal the child eats for free.

I wonder if, like me Glorianny, you just googled "meghan $5.99 salad bar" and got a page full of articles which showed where this daft story came from?

We could have just got all offended by the way she makes up stories, instead of actually trying to find out what really happened, couldn't we? I wonder if other people get offended by things that didn't happen?

Prentice Sun 30-Oct-22 14:08:35

Lathyrus
Since Meghan was given a private education I have real, doubts that she has ever been poor.
Eating a meal from the salad bar is fine and dandy, not particularly cheap but healthy and I expect she was always watching her figure.
It is simply more of the victim status that she aspires to and frankly makes me laugh.

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 14:09:52

She did actually say she ate at the Sizzler Salad bar.

Now before Covid me and the Sizzler had an intimate if sporadic relationship.

You have to buy the entree to get the Salad Bar. If that was all her parents could afford fair that’s probably true.

But what they could afford would have to be the steak, fish, grill whatever entree.

It’s not a poverty choice, believe me.

And just a totally unnecessary, warped story to go with what she was trying to achieve. If you’re going to do it, get it right🙄

Even me, arch Republican that I am, knows that Meghan got her private education after her dad won the lottery or something. You can be hard up one year and better off the next, you know. How amazing.

Prentice Sun 30-Oct-22 14:10:45

It is the constant self pity from H and M that annoys people, that and throwing your family under the bus in the public glare.

JaneJudge Sun 30-Oct-22 14:11:02

I've used the Morrisons salad bar

Prentice Sun 30-Oct-22 14:12:46

She will be saying next that her family were in a debtors prison while she laboured in a boot blacking company.grin

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:13:24

Oh, OK sorry. Obviously if Meghan said it, it must have been a lie. Obviously.

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 14:14:13

Yes, jolly good value.

The Sizzler doesn’t work like that though.

"I grew up on the $4.99 salad bar at Sizzler — it may have cost less back then (to be honest, I can’t remember) — but what I do remember was the feeling: I knew how hard my parents worked to afford this because even at five bucks, eating out was something special, and I felt lucky,"

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 14:18:51

She did write it in an open letter to Congress about 5 dollars for a meal out was all they could afford.

5 dollars for the salad bar with the entree. You can’t have it without.

That’s just the way it works at the Sizzler.

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:20:14

I got deleted earlier this week for suggesting a poster was twisting around, trying to justify something they got wrong.

Won't do that again.

Lathyrus Sun 30-Oct-22 14:22:34

I won’t have you deleted.

What you’ve quoted pretty much confirms that she wanted people to think she had a childhood where money was tight.

She should have checked how the Sizzler worked first😬

Glorianny Sun 30-Oct-22 14:25:56

And of course she doesn't really care about paid parental leave, she's just doing it for the publicity!

We used to have fish & chips sometimes as a treat when my kids were little- I can't remember how much that was, never mind what f&c cost when I was a child. Doesn't mean I never had them.

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:28:34

Dear god Lathyrus. She was actually at Sizzler. They have a "meal deal" where you can pay $4.99 to have a salad based meal. Link attached! She said she felt lucky to have had that.

What next will you complain about? There is nothing wrong with what she wrote in a letter to Congress, there is nothing to complain about except "I don't like Meghan."

I don't think you would have me deleted, though. Others would.

Actually, Volver, that’s something else that’s not true. Admittedly, not a lie concocted by Meghan. Her father was an award winning lighting director or similar and was very well paid. The lottery win was, I believe, thought up by the brother in order to get paid by some reporter. She had a middle class upbringing.

volver Sun 30-Oct-22 14:46:41

Oh? That's interesting.

😴

How are we to know anyone, other than by the outward image they project?

The lottery win is well documented. As is the fact that Thomas Markle filed for bankruptcy and has claimed he spent the money on MM's education. It's also recorded that she worked various jobs from age 13. It seems obvious that though she may have had advantages sometimes her family probably had financial difficulties. If this was because her father wasn't a good money manager you really don't know.

tickingbird Sun 30-Oct-22 15:09:35

Glorianny

Many of Meghan’s lies are well documented too but doesn’t stop others on here disputing them even when they’ve come from the horse’s mouth so to speak.

Meghan getting Proctor to change their ad for washing up liquid and getting a personal reply from Hilary Clinton is well documented but entirely false. Repeating a lie again and again doesn’t make it true!

Glorianny Sun 30-Oct-22 15:18:22

tickingbird this is interesting-more about selling financial services than getting headlines (You don't have to accept cookies just close the window) blog.vanhornlawgroup.com/rags-riches-and-royalty-the-parable-of-the-thomas-markle-bankruptcies/
Seems obvious her family was not financially stable.
Her mother has also filed for bankruptcy can post a link if you are interested.

tickingbird Sun 30-Oct-22 15:19:39

In his very well researched book Tom Bower also states that Thomas Markle never won the lottery.

In that case who paid for MM's education?
Doesn't really matter where the money came from, except it has also been said that she won a scholarship.
Absolutely possible he didn't win the lottery but 3 attempts to file for bankruptcy doesn't really signify an upbringing that was stable or middle class. Especially as her parents divorced when she was 6 and her mother also filed for bankruptcy.

tickingbird Sun 30-Oct-22 15:35:31

I’m going out now Glorianny but when I get back I’ll look into it. Thomas Markle, as I’ve already said, was an award winning lighting director. He had no problem paying for Meghan’s education. There is, however, much mystery about where her mother was for several years.
