Mine is a leather one, (maybe fake ‘leather’) with my home county’s name and picture on it.
I found it amongst my late mum’s possessions when we were sorting her stuff. Like me, she was an avid reader. The bookmark was brand new, however.
Every tine I open my current book and remove the bookmark, I smile and think of how pleased she would be to see me using this simple little item, and remembering her.
I use postcards I have bought from places we have visited over the years.
As I mostly read library books I put the date the books are due back on the blank side so that I am reminded, or can easily check, when the books are due to be returned.
Plus of course, it's lovely to look at the picture on the front and reminisce as sometimes the postcards are quite a few years old.
I cut up all cards - birthday, Christmas, Mothering Sunday (coming up!) and keep a stash in every room. Some have chopped up messages on the back - adds to the fun. Train tickets etc get lost while the book is in use. My DH dog-ears too.
