I fancy getting into a trilogy to read. As I’m confined to barracks with dh for a while
Any recommendations please?

I like anything really, ie historic, fantasy, psychological , thrillers etc.
nothing too heavy or demanding though 🤯.

If you want. A thrilling mixture of history and fantasy, you could not do better than Manda Scott’s Boudica novels, but there are four, not three. Beautifully drawn characters, impeccable research and mesmerising writing. I’ve just read them all for the second time and will no doubt read them again at some time.

If you want to go really old school you could look on Ebay or similar for Norah Lofts trilogy "The Town House, The House at Old Vine and The House at Sunset" Well researched historical.

Asta's Book - Barbara Vine, would certainly fulfil the historical, psychological requirements you're looking for. I'd definitely recommend it as an absorbing read.

Sunset song trilogy? There's a Glasgow based historical trilogy and the name briefly escapes me. I shall return

Grandmabatty Wed 16-Apr-25 12:17:43

Wax Fruit trilogy! Sorry, both that and Sunset Song are Scottish which might not suit

Have look at Kate Mosse. The Languedoc Trilogy and The Joubert Family Chronicles.
I can highly recommend both series.
Happy reading.

Ursula la Guin?
Wizard of Earthsea
Loved by adults and (older) children alike.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials

Sting Larsson Millenium series? The one that begins with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Edna O’Brien’s The Country Girls Trilogy. A classic compilation of the seminal novels. Set in 1950/60s Ireland.

TerriBull Wed 16-Apr-25 12:59:05

I apologise my suggestion was a stand alone, not part of a trilogy, I'll go away and see if I can remember books that fall into that category.

Littleannie Wed 16-Apr-25 13:02:50

I second the post of Norah Lofts The Town House, The House at Old Vine and The House at Sunset. My favourite of all time. About the inhabitants through the ages from about the 12th century to the 1950s. Need to be read in order. Old but still available on Amazon. Also on Amazon Unlimited if you subscribe to that. Audible version on Audible app if you have that.

Pat Barker The Silence of the Girls, The Women of Troy and The Voyage Home based on the stories of the women involved in the Trojan War. Compelling reading.
Also her earlier trilogy Regeneration based on soldiers in the First World War.

It's not a trilogy in fact I think the 10th book has been written.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.
It was turned into a TV series on Amazon or Netflix can't remember which.

Gingster Wed 16-Apr-25 16:49:01

Wow what a lot to choose from.
Thankyou!
I like the sound of all of them

I did read the Nora Loft trilogy a few years ago and loved it.

I’ll look into all of them and make my list xx
Thanks for your replies

The Wolf Hall trilogy by Hilary Mantel.

MiniMoon Wed 16-Apr-25 19:16:38

The Incendium Plot is the first in a series of historical novels by A. D. Swanton, the next being Chaos. Set in 17th century London. I've just started reading it, and so far I'm enjoying it.

MiniMoon Wed 16-Apr-25 19:19:40

If you can find them The Flight Of the Heron, The Gleam in the North and The Dark Mile set in the Highlands at the time of the Jacobite Rising are highly enjoyable. I think written by D. K. Broster.

I loved these and got so involved with the people and their lives that I couldn’t actually read the last one, because I knew what would happen to them 😳

In my reply I said Norah Lofts trilogy was on Amazon Unlimited. That should be Kindle Unlimited.
Kindle are doing a special offer at the moment, 99p for 3 months. Just remember to cancel before the end of the offer period.

The Wolf Hall trilogy by Hilary Mantel.

Yes. Excellent, I loved these - but maybe more heavy or demanding than asked for?

I recommend Ken Follett's Kingsbridge trilogy, based around the building of a cathedral and covering a period from the 13th to the 16th century.

grannydarkhair Thu 17-Apr-25 00:14:26

The (20th) Century trilogy by Ken Follett.
The trilogy about Cicero the Roman philosopher and statesman, etc. by Robert Harris.
Longer series - the Eagles of the Empire books about the fictional lives of two Roman Legionnaires by Simon Scarrow.
Also by Simon Scarrow - Revolution. Four books about the lives of Napoleon Bonaparte and Wellington.
The books about village life in the fictional Turnham Malpas by the late Rebecca Shaw. Also a different series by her - the Barleybridge books about a country vet’s practice.
The Shardlake books set in Tudor times by CJSansom.
Game of Thrones by RRMartin - very different in parts from the tv series.
The Jackson Brodie books by Kate Atkinson.

Goodness me, snap!

The Ursula Le Guin is a less demanding read than than the others but a delight.

Also as recommended above The Shardlake books set in Tudor times by CJSansom.

I love to read and I'm really fussy .
When it comes to a trilogy -my all time favourite is The Cairo Trilogy by Naguib Mahfouz .
Have a Google and see if it's your sort of thing .
I couldn't put it down .
