I don't know archealogyliz as it was so relevant that the way in which he was looked upon and treated by the other islanders developed his character but hey ho that's TV adaptations for you.

I felt the same, archaeologyLiz. Anyone less like the description of Jimmy Perez would have been difficult to find.

I enjoy reading the Ann Cleve books but I also loved Dougie Henshall as Jimmy Perez. I just see them as two different things really.

Like so many books that you read before watching the tv/film version, it’s disappointing when they hire an actor who in no way resembles the character.

If you watch before reading the book, then the character is already in your mind.

Jimmy Perez is such a compelling detective—calm, thoughtful, and very different from the typical crime fiction hero. The Shetland setting also adds a unique atmosphere that makes the stories even more engaging. Reading mysteries like these can be just as immersive as navigating the challenges in space waves.
