SS have enough to do than try to sort out silly people who are petulant about having to rearrange childcare arrangements.

It sounds far from a scientific survey. I know I'm being picky but, where is the evidence to support the claim that a daughter reported her mother to Social Services because she couldn't or wouldn't look after grandchildren? I find that very hard to believe.
OP - why do you have no respect for Social Services, yet hope they'll 'laugh in the face' of someone making a referral.

Maybe as Jalima says, school is out for the summer

From the comments above it does not sound like a very scientific survey.

Sorry GNHQ!

Just goes to show how much we've lost since the days of the extended family all living under the same roof and sharing childcare.
And elderlycare.

I suspect most of us using Gransnet only use forum and don’t look at the rest of the site- at least that’s what I do! New members are more likely to browse around other parts and find things like survey results.

This survey is on the main 'Grandparenting' page under 'Results of our latest childcare survey'. I read it myself a few days ago.

Why have you no respect for social services? Do you know what they do? Can you imagine what would happen if there was no social service? Not just for children and families, but for the elderly and the vulnerable of all ages?

Having just read some of the article about the recent survey, I really cannot believe this response from someone taking the survey .....

"-I was unable [to do childcare] as my husband was dying. My daughter reported me to social services.-"
- survey respondent

WHAT??

On what basis exactly was this poor lady reported to Social Services? For not looking after someone else's children? I certainly hope Social Services (whom I have no respect for whatsoever by the way ....) laughed in her face and did nothing surely??

I really hope the lady involved sees this, as I would really love to know the outcome of this ridiculous situation!

Also as she is obviously having a terrible time herself, hopefully she can come to get some support from us as she obviously isn't getting any from her DD!

I had initially assumed the lady's husband wasn't DD's Father, but sadly, maybe he is? How awful ..... sad
