In honour of my father I never miss the Remembrance Sunday Service at the cenotaph. Today has been no exception but as I watched I noticed one of our politicians, I believe he was there on behalf of the SNP, without a "programme" and who did not join in with any of the hymns, prayers or the national anthem.
I am a firm believer that how people conduct themselves and what they believe in is their business but this man looked like he didn't want to be there and his behaviour was not in the spirit of the occasion. Today's gathering, as always, is to respect and remember our forebears. This man looked churlish and disrespectful. I wish he'd stayed at home and allowed someone who really did want to pay their respects attend in his place.

I don’t think Boris would be recognisable with combed hair.😄
You’re making a few assumptions there OP!
Maybe he isn’t a Christian so all the hymns and prayers wouldn’t have been relevant to him, and perhaps even blasphemous depending on his faith system, if he has one!
You mention he didn’t get a programme, so maybe he was discriminated against and not given one as a hostile and racist act against the Scottish people and party. That’s enough to put anyone in a bad mood isn’t it?
You say you thought he had a churlish and disrespectful expression, and that’s your opinion, but perhaps that poor man just has bitchy resting face!!
Perhaps he like most reasonable people dislike how the Poppy Police have hijacked the event and turned it into a jingoistic rallying cry for war.
As a Scot he’d be more sensitive to the politics of it than maybe you are OP.
He showed up didn’t he? Isn’t that paying his respects?
Or does he have to tick all your boxes, perhaps going against his religion, and grinning like a fool, to be acceptable to you?
My opinion:
He paid his respects- he suited up, he showed up, and the rather judgemental and petty opinion you have of him is just that, an opinion, and could be argued, reflects badly on you on such a day, the main point of which is peace.

Well he looked an absolute mess. And where is the uproar- remember the Press and all re Corbyn!
Surely this was a day to remember and feel sorrow for all the lives lost in war. The servicemen and women who died or were wounded would have been of many religious faiths and denominations or none and of many political persuasions. All their lives should surely be remembered as being of equal value. It feels as if there is bullying going on here of a person only seen on television whose circumstances and beliefs we don't really know. Surely rousing up anger against people who we see as "other" than ourselves is one of the things that causes war.
I remember the press and fuss about Michael Foot - poor man.
Yes, so do I. And Boris looks a lot more of a mess! Where is the uproar?
BJ’s hair is always like that. I suspect it’s more that a person likes/dislikes BJ as to whether they find his hair offensive. I don’t find his hair offensive, I didn’t find Michael Foot’s overcoat offensive either, nor am I upset by the royals wearing uniforms as figureheads to the armed forces.
I didn’t find SF’s behaviour offensive, but I thought it strange that he wouldn’t sing or even hold a programme with the words, making it look as though he was making a point. The remembrance service is not really the place to make a point in my opinion. Anyway, WW3 has nearly broken out on this thread, which is a shame, because we are supposed to be respectfully remembering those who served in our armed services, and especially those who didn’t return. This includes my two great uncles and my second cousin.

I saw SF and couldn’t believe what Iwas seeing. There he stood representing the proud Scottish nation known for their bravery in military conflict and yet making it obvious he had no intention of joining in the hymns. Where was his respect for the countless Scots fallen or maimed for life who fought on our behalf. It wasn’t about him but he made it so. By the way I am not Scottish.
You're obviously not Scottish.
He was respectful and attentive. He just didn't sing. Respecting the dead is not about singing.
I'll be voting independence next, never felt so damned patronised. Oh and I'm British but feeling very embarrassed to be reading this thread.
I'll get back to sleep.
How right you are, this is the most ridiculous thread ever. Some people don't sing, some people don't join with prayers, totally up to the individual regardless of who you respect and represent. You do as always what you feel comfortable with. I croak, there is no way I would be singing at any service, remembrance or not, I don't sing at funerals I don't join with public prayers. I do what I want to do when I want to do, as we should all do. It is certainly not a sign of respect. I have never heard such silliness.
I do what I want to do when I want to do, as we should all do.
Are you an elected representative of your country in the House of Commons?
Many of us do things we don't really want because we know it's the right thing to do.
This was Mr Flynn's post on Twitter yesterday (now called X)

Very proud to honour those who gave their tomorrow for our today.
The democratic rights and freedoms that those who came before us fought and died for, remain the most precious thing we all collectively own.

Well, actually, he didn't look an absolute mess for once. From the pictures shown since, he looks smartly dressed with his poppy placed correctly (unlike some).
It's just that he's a stranger to the hairdressing scissors. You'd think Carrie would get the clippers out.
Shame on this tyrannical government to ban Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party, from laying a wreath at the Cenotaph on Sunday. It was cruel and unfair, Nigel had to be on a balcony instead and he would have done it with great respect. He is one of the most Patriotic members of parliament and stands for true democracy and free speech and as usual they try to put him down. His party gained far more votes than others that were allowed the privilege.

I commit to doing things I want to do. So they would be the right thing to do for me or whatever/whoever I represent.
You are so confrontational in every way.

Fake news.
A party has to have a minimum of six MPs before their leader is allowed to be part of the Parliamentary group laying a wreath at the Cenotaph. The Green Party leader was not therd either.
A decades-old protocol states each party must have at least six MPs to be able to take part in that element of the Remembrance ceremony, regardless of how many votes each party amassed overall at the last election

Might be a good idea to check your facts first before rushing in with all guns blazing! A party has to have at least six members of parliament to be part of the group laying wreaths at the Cenotaph. Why was Farage not laying a wreath in his own constituency?
Plaid Cymru has 4 Members of Parliament, not represented at
the Cenotaph

Stephen Flynn was representing Plaid Cymru too, Anniebach; it's an arrangement they've had for years, apparently.
Why was Farage not laying a wreath in his own constituency?
Perhaps he's forgotten where it is as he's never there.
Farage goes to Normandy each year for D Day and manages to stay for the whole day, unlike some!!

Well done.
What do you mean well done? Allira
11 th of November is a day to remember and pay respect to those who fought and sometimes died fighting on behalf of our countries. I had a father flying aircraft plus a mother and many other relatives in the RAF. Some died. I would thank people to reserve their petty squabbles for another time and place. What’s wrong with you ?
It's actually all over MSM as well as social media. It's ridiculous the amount of attention it's getting. Though it will calm down now as the new news is Archbishop Welby taking us all for mugs and Gary Linekar resigning from Match of the Day🙄

If his haircut is the only thing which disrespectful then that truly is nitpicking.
Flynn should learn a few manners from the redoubtable but respectful Ian Blackford.
Ian Blackford has been thoroughly discredited. Reeking of scandals and underhand behaviour. Also his treatment of Charles Kennedy was entirely unforgivable. He could teach Flynn hypocrisy.
