susie they mess about with the tune sometimes use a modern alternative to Oh Jesus.... I quite like the new one, but it means the old tune is getting feinter in my memory! Shame that is.

This is the one they sing now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi71IIsEfkY

Oh, didn't you just love carrying the flag at Church Parade! sigh!

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 09:41:26

This is the proper tune. The one I grew up with.

That last one is a beautiful video. Lovely graphics and a good bit of stonking piano to endeavour keep you in tune.

Glass, I woke up with Thine be the Glory going through my brain! grin

Now the green shoot riseth. It's an Easter hymn set to the French traditional tune Nouvelle Nouvelée.

glassortwo Tue 07-Feb-12 09:49:55

The only Easter Hymn I can remember from school is On a green hill far away.

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 09:50:10

effblinder, Yes, that is beautiful. That's actually a carol, isn't it?

Don't think I could sing along to that though.

Jesu good above all other. Had it at our wedding in 1955. I was teaching at the time and more than 50 children from my school came to the ceremony. This hymn was for them and we've sung it at every important ceremony ever since. Lovely lilting tune

This is a fantastic version of a good old Easter hymn.

You girls could bash it out as good as this. (and at the same pace)

Hunt what a lovely memory of all those children singing their hearts out on your wedding day.

GoldenGran Tue 07-Feb-12 10:11:18

Give Me Joy In My Heart - we had it at our wedding, it is happy and up-beat, not dirge like. We also had it at my MIL's funeral.

glassortwo Tue 07-Feb-12 10:13:06

golden I like that too.

harrigran Tue 07-Feb-12 10:31:11

How great thou art or maybe Gladly, thy cross eyed bear grin

Annobel Tue 07-Feb-12 10:43:01

The Old Hundredth - 'All people that on earth do dwell'. More for the tune than for the words. I used it as an introit for my wedding.

Nsube Tue 07-Feb-12 11:11:14

Also like
Is it I, Lord?

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 11:22:04

Annobel, I wanna go out to that one. (if I've really gotta go at all!)

whatisamashedupphrase Tue 07-Feb-12 11:25:54
