It's like our own little Songs of Praise.

That version is a little slower than we sang it andwearingchannel a different ending. It was the choir version on 4part harmony. I USED to sin alto and dh bass. Dd sangt alto or sop and ds bass. ( until he decided to convert to paganism)

It has just occurred to me that we all know lots of hymns whether or not we are church-goers - and we know enough to have favoutites. How many children today will even know any hymns to have an opinion? Schools don't "do" religion, churches often do "songs" (most of which I find depressing and BORING) - so how will the next generation learn? Religion/praise aside, so mnay hymns have provided words and phrses which are part of our language - take away the hymn and many of these lose theri significance.

Are we as well as our idiom all going to be impoverished as a consquence?

Driving me crazy. A hymn I used to know and love but can't remember. It was a Jewish hymn written in the minor key. Not shalom. Something about alle.uja and the lord I think. Any suggestions?

Yes gs did think bind us together Lord was find us together LordYes Ariadne I meant How Great thou Art....We had an enormous hymn book up in the hall at school and all the words were easy to see,so there was no excuse then for getting the words wrong.

Jerusalem is another favourite of mine, I hated school, but loved this as our school song.
And I agree about The Day Thou Gavest, it was my grandma`s favourite hymn.

Sibelius - 'Be Still My Soul'. I chose this for my dad's funeral and although I'm not a religious person, I find that stirring hymns do something for me.
