In addition to giving up something for Lent we usually aim to DO something positive as well. A couple of years ago my husband and sons decided that they would start to give blood. As my husband and eldest son are averse (seriously so) to anything remotely medical this was a really big deal for them. Eldest son very nearly backed out the first time and had to be encouraged and cajoled through the door and my husband came very close to passing out, but they all went through with it and now donate blood regularly.
I tried wine last year as well as chocolate which I have given up since I was 4 yrs old...but I REALLY need my 'Eggheads' glass of white over lots of ice!!!
I think grannyactivist's family has the right idea. Lent is about self sacrifice. Why not give up some of your time to do some good deeds or visit someone who can't get out.
I am posting here as I cannot find the other thread . I said I was having a DRY which I am , and am so chuffed that my complexion has got real GLOW to it , looks so fresh , even though I say it myself, mind you , himself when we were chatting over our cuppa , in bed this morning remarked on it . We have also started taking a little constitutional each day , so that had to good also ! I feel so chuffed , just had to share ! BIG
