Am I too old for jeans?

I love my jeans - I have four in various blues, one black pair, one grey pair, one brown pair and a really good make of white jeans. I did say I like them. They seem to fit me well and suit me. I have nicer trousers for going out, various crop trousers - in fact one pair in denim. I don't want to give them up - my BFF wears them too and she like me is 67 years old. We say we can see us in the Rest Home [God forbid] wearing them. I don't wear shorts - in any style - I don't think it's fair to impose my old legs to the world. So Gransnetters what do you think?

hilda grin am also*lardy arse* but until your post was in denial! I also avoided jeans for years for that reason, but now wear them with pride!

I shall be carried into my box wearing jeans, I'm never going to give them up! Leggings are good too, although not the thin ones they need to be reasonably thick, Oh and something long to wear over them to cover the butt!

I love my jeans too and I'm not so much lardy arse as jelly belly grin

Anagram Tue 17-Apr-12 16:01:45

Same here, nanachrissy! grin

Jeans are brilliant. They are comfy, they can be as smart as trousers, especially worn in the chic Italian way. Absolutely agree all trousers should have tops that do not enlarge the bottom and do not show the love handles. Dress them up or dress them down.

They don't crease, are practical and hard wearing, I love mine.

I wear jeans, leggings and jeggings usually with something long over the top.i find Cotton Traders stretch jeans are a good fit. I used to think I would grow old gracefully but can't bear the thought of wearing what my daughter calls mumsy clothes. And she doesn't want me to dress like that. She has been given permission to tell me when I look silly and so far, so good.

What would I wear instead????? shock

granjura Tue 17-Apr-12 22:18:52

Indeed, lol smile

Well said, Hilda! On another site I visit, some ladies were going on about how they love the warm weather because they can wear skirts without tights. That's fine - but not for me! Each to their own, and whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

Anagram Tue 17-Apr-12 22:25:07

Oops! I seem to have answered a post on the previous page...blush. Never mind, it still holds true for me!

If I manage to find some really long skirts I am happy to go barelegged.....but always make-sure my toenails are suitably painted and feet are as presentable as possible. I've got 'hockey player' legs and the dreaded veins are pretty unsightly now...so I feel a pedicure is always needed to draw the eys down! However I have bought a sort of Salwhar kameeze (?) type outfit for if we get some really warm weather...we are pretty isolated here but this will keep me cool and covered. I would not have dreamt of wearing such a thing where I used to live but pottering around the garden I feel it will be ideal. A lady in Wiltshire sells them. They are sized for us sturdy Brits and I find them very comfy.

you could even go to a wedding in them!

HildaW Wed 18-Apr-12 15:46:45

er.....jeans?............................methinks I draw the line there unless twas some throwback hippystyle thingy.....but even then think I'd dig the kaftan out for that. grin

HildaW could I have a link to the lady in Wiltshire, please? smile

Butternut Thu 19-Apr-12 07:22:54

Me too, please, Hilda.

I love me jeans i will never stop wearing them, being born and grown up in the fifties isn't that when they began being worn by young people?

HildaW Thu 19-Apr-12 13:16:43

Ariadne and Butternut....the lady advertises regularly in the back pages of Good Housekeeping. She is called Denny Andrews. She has a very simple web site but you still have to phone her to place an order.

I wear jeans ALL the time and have no skirts or dresses. I am 65 and dread the possibility of having to go into residential accommodation and being put in a skirt or a dress! It would take my identity away. Am I very sad or what??

Bellesnan Thu 19-Apr-12 15:47:04

Returning after a time apart from Gransnet. Not sad at all Janan - in fact you made my day and now I will go out (at 67) and feel great about wearing jeans as I have been doing for years and years. I think the last time I wore a skirt was at my daughter's wedding six years ago - I don't own a dress, have a few skirts that don't see daylight but are kept just in case... I bought some leggings this week but daughter suggested that they should only be worn with a longish top and as the top I bought was not all that longish - they are going back. I think the biggest problem with clothes that I have is that I vary from 12 to 14 depending on the shop, size 14 trousers have baggy bums and legs but fit the waist (wherever that is now)and size 12 fit the bum and legs perfectly but I have to resort to laying on the floor to do them up!! Then, of course, I struggle to get up.....

Anagram Thu 19-Apr-12 15:54:55

I am that shape too, Bellesnan sad

nonnanna Thu 19-Apr-12 16:41:28

And me too. Bellesnan and Anagram. It's that 12 or 14 thing everywhere I go and what do you order online? I love my jeans. They hide grandchildren's fingerprints, baby puke and dog hair and still look pretty good. However, as I sat on the floor with the grandchildren this week something sort of 'gave' in the rear of my right hip. Didn't think too much of it at the time as I knew I had on a pair of slightly dodgy pants where the elastic was parting company from the knickers. Wasn't able to change them as I was in charge of a seven month old and a four year old for the day. Then, horror....the four year old falls about laughing saying ' Nanny, I can see your pants. There's a hole in your bottom' She meant that there was a hole in my jeans. Although I am very grateful for the hole in my bottom a hole in my jeans, which turned out to be a four inch split near the back pocket, was not good news. I am plucking up courage to go and get a replacement pair with all the hassle involved in finding some that fit. Anyway..I'm sure there must have been a flaw in the fabric...

Can anyone tell me if "Not Your Daughter's Jeans" are worth the money? Do they do what it says on the tin?

trendygran Thu 19-Apr-12 16:58:22

I love my Jeans and wear them a lot. They are so much more comfortable than ordinary trousers. My Daughter laughs that I moreorless dismissed them when younger, but have worn them frequently since turning sixty, and intend to continue doing so as long as I can .
