Good morning everyone, quite a lot cooler this morning, thank goodness, I ache all over with lack of sleep because it has been Soooooo hot overnight, and I do need my eight hours. I might be able to get all the odd jobs done today if it stays cool, that's the plan, not sure it will work.

Greatnan Wed 30-May-12 08:28:46

I am not going to change my forum name - it has taken me months to build up my 'fan' base of critics and I would hate to have to start again!

I am a bit sad today, as I will be saying 'Goodbye' to my sister after nine lovely days, showing her the beautiful Alpine scenery and talking non-stop!
However, I will be spending two weeks with her when I go to England in August for my grandson's wedding, and I am going to her for Christmas. (I will be going to New Zealand in February for six weeks).
We had a wonderful meeting with juragran at Montreux - it was great to see two of my favourite people getting on so well. When I was in England, we also had lunch with Annobel - another success!

Oldgreymare Wed 30-May-12 08:44:55

Greatnan saying goodbye to 'family' is always sad. I feel very unsettled for a day or so then 'pick up' and carry on.
You have lots of exciting plans and you could always re-read some of your fantastic jokes, they work for me anyway. {sunshine] and flowers

Oldgreymare Wed 30-May-12 08:45:39

Sorry sunshine and flowers

AlieOxon Wed 30-May-12 08:51:31

Hello folks.
Bright morning here too. Going to Oxford to shop with my daughter.

A bit of a scare last evening, the dog from next door but one got into my garden, via next door's. And as far as my open back door!
Now, I am NOT a dog person. It's a very large alsation. And my cat was very threatened and hissing....not knowing the dog, I was worried she might get grabbed...

I knew I had to be boss here, so I yelled at the dog and he backed off..then I haad to grab the cat and get her in and shut the door....whew!
Then I had to run round and tell them to get their dog back.

Aftereffects - cat doesn't want to go out now. I expect she'll get over it, but it was nice to leave the doors open, and now I have to block the hedge gap the dog got through before I can do that.
And I have a sore back, at the completely wrong time for everything else I want to do! The result of bending to grab the cat and turning at the same time...
Oh well. They did apologise.

nanaej Wed 30-May-12 08:55:10

glass yes I lost GN last night too!

greatnan sad to say good bye to your sister but lots of travel for you soon smile

Sunny here after grey start..what to do today? A walk at the arboretum or a trip to Wisley?

Annobel Wed 30-May-12 09:03:12

I hate saying goodbye to my sister from NZ either when I visit her or she comes over here. We always have a good time together and this year we spent 12 days in France. This weekend I am going to Scotland to stay with our other sister and the three of us will be together for the last time before she goes back to NZ in a fortnight's time. The older I get, the more difficult this parting is.

greenmossgiel Wed 30-May-12 09:15:18

Drizzley here in Fife. Having lunch with my friend at the wee cafe in the village then will go to see if I can find some plants for my tubs in the front garden. Slept well in my new (old) bed last night (other 'arf' snoring again), until Daisy the Cat jumped on top of me during the night, soaking wet from being outside in the rain!
Greatnan - don't change your name! You're just fine as you are. I was thinking of changing mine, because it would be really quite easy to work out my identity, then I decided that anyone who was likely to work it out would probably know me well enough anyway and would already be my friend, so I'll just stay as I am. smile

JessM Wed 30-May-12 09:15:18

eGJ - Gransnet homework counselling scores again.
greatnan no don't you dare change your name. you are a Legend as I have said before. I am envious of your uninterrupted time with your sister.
It's my birthday today. I am not one of those high maintenance women that expects a big birthday fuss. But there is always a teeny bit of inner child around isn't there. DH off to London early and brought me tea (I suggested this last night. I have not got him trained, He does not drink it himself.) and a card. He tramped round town yesterday trying to find me a new fluffy dressing gown - but it is the wrong time of year! M and S will be full of em come the autumn.
I have picked a beautiful bunch of flowers from my garden - iris, allium, dog daisies, columbine, white campion and white roses! Summer is officially here - roses are out. It's official!
DIL remembered yesterday - but they are dealing with an ear infection over there in NSW. And the one in NZ is convinced that he has whooping cough (I thought it was a viral cough when i had it... who knows) . He, like my sis is hopeless at remembering birthdays. Lovely people. But not good at that kind of thing.
My treat for the day is to chair a (possibly tricky) U3A meeting. Hopefully a stimulating afternoon! And we are having a cream tea to sweeten the occasion.
Tomorrow though I am booked to have lunch with another gransnetter smile and to go out shopping in the afternoon with a friend. smile

Anagram Wed 30-May-12 09:20:04

I lost GN last night too, and actually looked on MN for the first time ever - and the last! (Can't believe the language, and antagonism on some threads!).

Happy Birthday JessM! Hope you have a good one! flowers smile
