A very late bunch of birthday wishes to jess, I hope it has been a good day for you with lots of treats and fun
Is there a toiletry you can no longer buy and miss?
Nicola Sturgeons husband pleads guilty.
Good Morning all!
A very late bunch of birthday wishes to jess, I hope it has been a good day for you with lots of treats and fun
How was the day, Jess?
Is anyone awake? I'm up early worrying about my daughter who seems to have done something 'orrible to her back the night before last...had great difficulty shopping yesterday and I feel she has made it worse.........
Morning alie I hope your daughter's back is going to be alright. I've just woken early because my sister is getting some MRI results today and will learn whether the chemotherapy she had has had an effect. She certainly looks better and is stronger than she was a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed. I hope we will all have had a relaxed night's sleep tomorrow.
Morning Alie and when hope you get some good news today,it's horrible being awake at night worrying,am just awaiting my morning cuppa before facing the day,we have had some rain overnight so my pots will have liked that, hope it isn't so humid today have a good day today
Belated happy birthday, Jess!
whenim fingers firmly crossed. X
Oh whenim worrying times for you. Hope the results are good.
Alie my DS is a chiropractor and tells me that the vast majority of "backs" are muscle spasm, they get better over a few days and the best thing you can do is keep moving. (despite the fact that you want to keep still in case it hurts)
They hurt a lot but probably no cause for maternal worry. Take care of yourself!
Whenim fingers crossed here too.
when, thinking of you and your sister.
I used to have those horrible muscle spasms in my back whenever I undertook huge cleaning jobs at my daughter's house, but they always subsided after a day, so here's hoping!
Good luck to all of you who have health problems yourself, or are worrying about your relatives. My sister has just spent nine days with me in France, and she seemed much better than I had expected, although she takes a huge number of pills each day. The wheelchair assistance at both airports worked quite well. She managed the shallow steps up to my second-floor flat once a day, just using her walking stick.
Regarding change of real name, not forum name - after my divorce I didn't want to use either my ex's name or my father's, so my daughters and I chose a name we all liked and I changed it by deed poll for a small fee. You can, of course, just choose to be known by another name and as long as you are not doing it for fraudulent reasons it is quite legal in England. You just tell your bank, doctor, tax office, DWP, DVLA, etc. that in future you wish to be known by your new name.
It has caused me some problems in France, as they don't have that facility and all the forms just give room for 'Nom de jeune fille' and 'Nom de marriage' - I have just taken to leaving out my married name completely - after all, I have been known by my new name for many years longer than either my birth or married names.
One of my nieces refused to take her husband's name, on principle, and I always felt a bit awkward when addressing a card to them - has anyone else come across this problem? I will start a thread about it
Missed the excitement AGAIN!
A belated Happy Birthday JessM
May I repeat Greatnan's good wishes to all who are concerned about friends or family?
I don't use my DH name. Having changed the first time and then back again (no problem) I did not want to change again. Apart from feminist principles, there would have been far too many consonants.
Several family members send me cards with married name on it. If I cared I would have told them I suppose. I don't particularly mind if people send things to mr and mrs dh. I would prefer if they didn't I suppose. Occasionally, if i have booked a hotel or something he gets addressed by my surname - which stops him in his tracks. I would address envelope to them: John Smith and Jane Brown. or the other way round even.
I'm excited this morning; going to meet up with 3 other GN's in Edinburgh. Have been going round and round in circles since about 7 a.m. wondering what on earth to wear. Typically, it's raining but not too cold and I just don't 'do' shoes in the summer - will probably miss the train at this rate
Cleaning job is exactly what my daughter has been doing! ...plus shopping and carrying a very heavy bag to her friend's house....I just spoke to her and the doctor has been (!) and given her an injection but it isn't having much effect.
She's going to have to slow down a bit and be careful....
I passed on the advice Jess.
when - my fingers are crossed too.
Gally Have a lovely time. Wish that I could join you in the fair city of Edinburgh.

Have a nice time all of you
I had a great nights sleep and feel like a different person this morning.
Suspect I might have been trying to do too much work!
greatnan the surname I use is my mother's first name. I changed from my married name, by deed poll, a few years after she died. OH and I going through a tricky time at that point..it was a feminist action to have a totally female generated name. OH and I still together (41yrs) and v happy now. I never worry if I do get a letter addressed to Mrs H but am usually Ms J!!
Good news for my sister. The chemo has had some effect and there has been no spread. It was aggressive treatment that made her very ill, so hopefully she will recover enough to take a little more treatment in due course. For now, we are thankful she has come home with positive news
when

That really is good news, when.
when brilliant news
Alie - glad your daughter has had a diagnosis - time will help now.
when fab news
when - that's great news.
for you both.
My daughter just phoned and is a bit better, has been sleeping on and off all day after a really bad night.
She phoned her second son at 2 in the morning and he came back and has helped her all the time since, just now he is getting his little brother from school and shopping....and it's his BIRTHDAY! She meant to get him a cake and everything and this is all he's got - he deserves a medal!
I had a feminist name too, I decided just to use my first two names..it felt right at the time, I was just divorced. Now I want to go back and be who I was to start with - only now I know who that is, since I found out more about my family.
Go
od to hear your daughter is being well looked after Alie.
I've been awake since just after 4 worrying about the cakes for my tea party tomorrow; important questions like, should I use butter or royal icing, should I fill the sponge cake with jam, or cream and strawberries; have I got enough icing powder; when should I make the sandwiches so they don't go soggy; haven't made scones for so long that I will have to find a recipe (!); when am I going to find time to spring clean the house so people can drop crumbs all over a clean floor - as if I don't have enough to worry about already
. On the up-side, it isn't raining here and the sky is blue, so maybe the Queen could relocate to the Firth of Forth for her River Pageant
