Almost a prayer!

This is a poem I wrote before I gave up completely on men.

If I had a god (which I don't)
And I thought he would answer a prayer
(Which he won't),
I would ask for a mate,
Meaning both lover and friend,
Confidant, critic and all.
What would he be, this dream mate?
Warm and funny, of course,
Clever and kind.
Thinking I'm right when I'm wrong,
But, most of all, strong.

The strong can be gentle and kind
But they don't make demands
They think their own thoughts
They know their own minds.
They can take alternative views
Without losing face -
They give in with grace.

The strong approve of themselves
They don't need another's belief.
They handle their grief
With dignity, courage and calm.
They don't look for balm.

I'll never look up to a man -
That isn't my style,
But looking across would be nice
Once in a while.
Are you listening, god, whatever you are?
You know I won't settle for less,
So do what you can,
Send me a man.

learner so sorry to hear that and I do hope the outcome will be positive. I know how devastated I would feel if it were me DH.

Thank you so much everyone for your kindness. I've had to shut myself in the bathroom for a bit of a cry.
I've also told both DD (not DS yet - will have to work up to that) and had a long talk to both of them over the phone, which has helped enormously. There is nobody here I can talk to.
We will know more on Thursday - not long to wait.

I wrote some poems once. Put 'em on Mumsnet. But then they decided to scrap the topic. Bye bye poems. grin

They were probably crap anyway.

Learnergran, will say a little prayer for your DH. It's all I can do.

Modern medicine and treatments can do marvels these days. x

Thank you.
Following an endoscopy and biopsies he has been told he has stomach cancer, which is what both his parents died of in their sixties. He is 64. He doesn't believe it and says he has never felt better.
Scan tomorrow for stage and spread and will hear on Thursday if they are able to operate.
Having to talk calmly to the girls has calmed me.
It all just seems totally unreal.
Thank you so much for your supporting posts. I can't tell you how much it means.

Learnergran flowers my sister was diagnosed with stomach cancer over 10 years ago. Last year she bought herself a new car to celebrate being a cancer survivor! I hope your DH is able to do the same.
