granjura I'm not so sure about the heroic status of St George. It seems to me travelling about slaying dragons willy nilly is not to be recommended. No wonder they are an endangered species.

George always struck me as a quixotic nit-wit. Some of the depictions of him and the dragon are laughable – it's just a wee beastie.

Mind you, I'm not sure that maidens aren't an endangered species as well and that could also account for a shortage of dragons.

Quite right, absent. It's a case of supply and demand!

There is a beautiful dragon in the series 'Merlin' (voice by John Hurt). Unfortunately he is the last of his kind due to persecution by Uther Pendragon who hates magic.

I have been away fro GN for two days, come back, have read two threads and do not understand anything that is going on; off to lie down in darkened room. ()When I've read the rest!)

And then of course, there was Puff, the Magic Dragon...but that's another story...
