Today I've been.....

The downside to starting a family in mid 30s mean mine have run out of time to bless me with another rugrat little cherub

Oh dear, she is only 25! Hope she doesn't emulate us and have 5 - my nerves wouldn't cope!

My youngest grandchild, who I have minded since he was 8 months old, is about to start "big school" next week, ad I`m so going to miss seeing him every day, wish there was another baby to look after, but alas, he`s going to be the last one.

......staying up far too late to try and catch up on what's been going on in my absence. Need to get my beauty sleep now as I'm not as young as I was and I need all the help I can get; it's my 59th birthday!!

Ga - happy birthday - I wouldn't mind being 59 again as I had just retired.

Anno - I didn't expect to have so many gc from just two daughters and they certainly knew all the facts about contraception - my younger daughter wanted a baby from a very early age and got married at 17 for just that reason. Being part of a large family has affected the gc differently - the eldest is adamant that he never wants children, but a couple say they would love a large family themselves. I was one of four surviving children and both my sisters had four. I never wanted more than two because I wanted a career, but I found it very easy to conceive. You know the old saying....'he only has to hang his trousers on the bedroom door and......'

Kitty, I know exactly what you're going through as our eldest had problems too but now has two lovely little girls. Fortunately she's decided to stick at that. My mother is 12 miles close too and inclined to get more demanding if I spend worry time with the rest of the family. Perhaps we could do with a dedicated Aged Parents thread?

Kitty I can remember when you announced the birth of your grandson Bertie. I hope your daughter's pregnancy goes well.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to spend a lot of time with my youngest granddaughter who is now nine and a half months old. My daughter was unwell throughout her pregnancy and this baby has always been a happy, healthy baby. Babies personalities shine through even at this young age.

Faye - you are quite right about personalities being estabished at a very young age. I could swear that one of my daughters and some of my gc came out of the womb smiling! They remain cheerful, optimistic people. A couple of others were born sombre and remain so.
In any litter of puppies you will find the timid, the friendly, the aggressive...no reason why humans should be different.

Thank you one and all. My biggest worry has been relieved this week (poorly relative has now been sectioned and is in hospital) so I'm feeling quite relaxed and able to enjoy my day.
Kitty I do hope all continues well with your daughter's pregnancy - often we're like a piece of elastic aren't we? Pulled this way and that by our children, parents and other relatives, but that's the price of relationships I suppose.
I'm also going to be granny again next year and I'm just very excited.

I always think love is like elastic ...it just stretches to include new family members and friends. My little GD understood that was how there was enough love to go round when her baby sister was born. I think I must be a simple soul!

Yes, that is so true. In some ways, I have found that the more people I love, the more love I have to give. (Just as well, given the size of my brood).
