Apart from choosing a new name, I've been slathering Germolene on insect bites - how lovely is that? My new name doesn't make one think of Germolene and insect bites! It's the time of year for these and I'm covered in large itchy bumps...grin

What a thrill it is, Ella, when they take their first steps. There'll be no stopping her now!

Mamie - lovely part of the country, but that Tramontane! It nearly took our skin off in April! Enjoy your holiday and weigh your bags down on the beach!

glassortwo Wed 12-Sept-12 19:45:53

ella those first few steps are priceless sunshine

Butternut Wed 12-Sept-12 20:00:03

greatnan Always good to have another trip/adventure to look forward to. Barcelona is a grand city.

Mamie - Sounds fabulous.

OGM I love a bargain, too!

annodomini Wed 12-Sept-12 20:17:07

Butty - that sounds as if it qualifies as white knuckle driving! I did a lot of off-road stuff - in a Beetle, through rivers etc - in East Africa in my youth - but your adventure is in a class of its own! Respect!

Butternut Wed 12-Sept-12 20:46:49

Thanks anno. It was certainly challenging and inspiring, came just at the right time and was an adventure I needed. smile

whenim64 Wed 12-Sept-12 20:55:20

Nice to have you back Butty. That sounds like quite an adventure! The scenery around there is spectacular smile

Today I spent the last afternoon with my DGD who has her first full day at School tomorrow sad she has been coming home straight after lunch. I am going to miss the chatter but she is loving school, she will be worn out when I collect her at 3.15.

Nanadogsbody Wed 12-Sept-12 22:49:57

ella grin

annodomini Wed 12-Sept-12 23:08:23

Is she proud of herself in her new school uniform, glass? My youngest GS looks strangely cute in his, though there's no doubt at all that he will soon be as scruffy as his father was.

glassortwo Wed 12-Sept-12 23:16:12

anno she had the same uniform for nursery so its old hat, but she is over the moon with her big girl shoes, she has tiny feet and has wished for these shoes but her feet were too small but they now fit so she is like a dog with two tails... she walked into the classroom and said to the teacher Mrs* * * ** look at my big girl shoes. grin
Boys have to be scruffy or there is something wrong. wink

harrigran Wed 12-Sept-12 23:32:25

That is economical glass GD's pre school and reception class had completely different coloured uniforms. the clothes have to be bought from the school too because they have the badge woven on.

Oldgreymare Wed 12-Sept-12 23:53:27

Ella first steps thanks to Nanna, I'm sure, lots of adventures to come.
Glass, love the 'big girl shoes', a girl can't go wrong if she loves shoes!!!!
Butterlots more adventures for you too! wink

Bags Thu 13-Sept-12 06:06:01

No sexism here, please. Girls can be scruffy too. And often are, if DD is anything to go by. Long may it last.

Greatnan Thu 13-Sept-12 07:29:46

Why not ask the school to set up a scheme of handing on uniform to younger children? It worked very well at my gcs school. No money involved, parents just donated good, used, uniform to a central store. Other parents made an appointment to visit discreetly. Nobody knew which child had uniform from the store.
I hate the way some schools dictate where you can get uniform - no doubt they get some commisson from the supplier, but uniform can be bought so cheaply now in several stores.

glassortwo Thu 13-Sept-12 07:58:28

old must take after her Mother nothing to do with me grin
harri it works well and makes the Nursery part of the school from day one, the school also sell the embroidered logo tops but the remainder can be bought anywhere.
bags yes girls can be a scruffy too my DD would go out like a new pin and by the end of the day you would think she had been dragged through a hedge backwards grin
greatnan they do run a scheme where old uniform can be passed down to anyone who needs it but there is not much that lasts the school year, unless they have a growth spurt.

Greatnan Thu 13-Sept-12 08:01:20

I had one 'prissy' daugher who never had a hair out of place, but her sister made Just William look neat. Same with the gc, gender does not seem to be important, just personality.

Gally Thu 13-Sept-12 09:47:18

Just 'fallen' off the flight from Sydney, via HK. We bumped most of the way back - you should have seen the queue for the loo after being forcibly strapped in for two and a half hours - mostly men I have to add - nae bladder control wink. It's lovely to be back in Blighty again even if it is a tad chilly - but the sun is out sunshine and I shall endeavour to stay awake for as long as possible before succumbing to jetlag. Back on GN form tomorrow or the next day when I will catch up with you all.

glassortwo Thu 13-Sept-12 09:54:08

gally sunshine good to have you back safe and sound.

annodomini Thu 13-Sept-12 10:43:22

Welcome back Gally. It'll be good to hear from you when you've stopped shivering. sunshine

Today I have got cystitis, so have to to take a specimen down to the surgery and pick up a prescription. Bother, to put it mildly! sad

annodomini Thu 13-Sept-12 10:45:07

And now I am waiting to hear about my new great nephew/niece who will be delivered today. My sister is probably biting her nails down to the quick.

soop Thu 13-Sept-12 11:29:20

flag Good to have you back Gally. What an adventurous time you've had. When would you like your portrait of Charlie? It's ready to post together with the lovely photos. Just say when. flowers

anno I'm so sorry to hear that you've cystitis. It is such a pain and can really drag you down. Start the tablets asap. Hoping that you get some relief and begin to feel heaps better in time for news of babe's arrival. smile

harrigran Thu 13-Sept-12 12:59:47

Sympathy anno cystitis is horrible. The fastest I have recovered from it was when I saw a lovely young Doctor in Avignon, a single dose of antibiotic. I think it was a powdered nuclear bomb, it blasted the germs smile

Greatnan Thu 13-Sept-12 13:11:33

Welcome home Gally xxxxxxx

glassortwo Thu 13-Sept-12 13:18:00

anno I suffer from time to time and at the first sign I drink gallons of water, but it does mean lots of trips to the loo but it does work and there is always something to pass instead of that feeling of passing glass. Hope you are better soon. flowers I find if I have been dehydrated it brings it on.

Butternut Thu 13-Sept-12 13:30:43

anno - Hope your cystitis clears up very soon! As glass says, drink masses of water.....
