Anyone watching William Klein on BBC1. Brilliant.

I've been channel hopping all night but missed that. Tomorrow [ie my day off] I have to do another 4 hours of computer training so have got to get up at normal work time. I'm so brassed off. Along with having this strange feeling in my nose [it feels as if someone has shoved a pea up it; a polyp perhaps?]. Decided my carpets needed a professional clean, so phoned up a company that are always advertising round here. They were busy but said they'd phone me back. They didn't. Am I wrong to feel really annoyed by that? I mean, I wanted to give them some business, so why should I chase them? Oh dear; I have got the grumps today. Sorry; just needed to let off steam......

I'm not surprised you feel brassed off Crimson.
You would think at a time of recession companies would be falling over themselves to provide excellent customer service and get more business.
As for the training, will you get another day off in lieu?

"Anyone watching William Klein on BBC1. Brilliant."

Sorry glassortwo anything introduced or produced by Alan Yentob is not for me. I spent much of my working life with the BBC and he is the pits. Onscreen and off.

imho grin

Apart from anything else (eg his ludicrous, greedy luxury golden handshake negotiated when leaving his job at the BBC) he axed Eldorado, which a large number of us had brought back from the brink. It was gaining viewers and could have gone on providing harmless, upbeat entertainment for many viewers and reasonably enjoyable employment for professionals like me for years to come. We had the whole set built (it's still standing), some of the really rubbish cast had been weeded out, we had an OK body of writers, a good new producer, the bulk of the money has been spent, keep it going.

But no, braindead Botney (his name backwards. Private Eye loves to invent the story that he's so insecure he's reversed his true name!) anyway, the braindead Botney has to make his mark when taking over as Controller BBC 1. He did nothing of any significance once he was in the job! It pleased his mates on the newspapers, who all hated Eldorado, and he did the easy thing. Axed us. You all may well have hated the programme, but many millions enjoyed it. He's a worthless imbecile and the BBC continuing to use him, when plenty younger fresher arts presenters would love the gigs he gets, really gets my goat.

As you can tell smile

Well, better out than in, as they say up North.

The BBC is in a very, very bad way. It may disappear or, more likely, be changed out of all recognition, possibly privatised. Yentob and the equally talentless John Birt (Lord Birt ffs!) are two major reasons why the Corporation is now in this appalling mess. Switch on Radio 4 or Radio 3 now (or 6 or 2 or 5 or your local radio or BBC TV Channels 3 or 4); enjoy, they may well not be there in a few years. We're all doomed, doomed I say! But life will go on, it's only telly! (or radio).

grannyactivist Wed 21-Nov-12 11:31:25

So, isthis, I guess Mr. Yentob isn't on your Christmas card list then? grin

Today - right now - I'm still in bed!!! blush

I've had three days of manic activity, helping other people to complete written pieces of work (I spent five solid hours doing this yesterday), listening to (genuine and very sad) tales of woe, attending meetings, organising meetings..... and I know that if I put in an appearance downstairs I'll get nobbled by someone to help out further. So I'm staying put. I've just got over a very nasty bout of illness and I'm looking after myself. It's actually rather nice. grin

I will have to get up soon though.

Well, maybe not for another half hour.

harrigran Wed 21-Nov-12 12:14:55

isthis shock are you allowed to write things like this ?

isthisallthereis Wed 21-Nov-12 13:37:08

harrigran why not? It's what I feel. And know.

Do you mean not allowed by Gransnet house rules? Or by the UK law? or by propriety? Or some other "not allowed"? Pls explain.

Interesting. An on-line dictionary has come up with hte following definition of "propriety": The state or quality of conforming to conventionally accepted standards of behavior or morals.

Am definitely a child of the 60's (out and proud! I loved the 60's) - "conforming" - no thanks.

Mishap Wed 21-Nov-12 13:46:44

What did I do today? - had my plaster removed - hooray! Still a way to go till I can walk without crutches, but definitely progress!!

yogagran Wed 21-Nov-12 14:00:16

That must feel SO much better Mishap both physically and mentally. I'm glad for you flowers

Bags Wed 21-Nov-12 14:10:36

Used a bit of wire to fix a bit of wheel arch that had lost its bolt back into place on the car. It'll do till we book into the garage to get something else fixed. [goodwithwire emoticon]

Atagirl, mishap!

glassortwo Wed 21-Nov-12 14:15:26

kittylester Wed 21-Nov-12 14:28:55

mishap did you have a really good scratch? Bet it feels good smile

Mishap Wed 21-Nov-12 14:36:40

Not only a good scratch, but my DD presented me with a squirt of her posh Decleor moisturiser to rub in my leg, which is scaly and revolting and looks like a prehistoric reptile! I need a bath!!!

It's pretty painful still, but I am told it should be OK in a few weeks and I cannot wait to drive again and be blessed with a bit of freedom! All good progress.

Gagagran Wed 21-Nov-12 14:46:30

Had my crowned molar out at 12.45pm and thankfully, despite my lovely dentist's fears, it did all come out - roots and all. Am sipping water through a straw and planning on some yoghurt later. Only supposed to have soft food and nothing hot today. Great relief it's done and out - I was very apprehensive.

Ella46 Wed 21-Nov-12 14:52:48

Good on yer Mishap, don't go doing too much now! [stern face]

Ana Wed 21-Nov-12 14:57:28

Gagagran - you have my deepest admiration! I insisted on having mine out at the local hospital...

Gagagran Wed 21-Nov-12 15:05:40

No worries on that score Ella - I'm having a lazy afternoon on the internet! Mr Dentist told me to close my eyes and listen to the soothing music he put on - pity it was the usual shopping mall Christmas selection! Now a ice bit of Mozart would not have gone amiss.

Gagagran Wed 21-Nov-12 15:21:44

Or even a nice bit of Mozart! Sorry Ella misread your post to Mishap and appropriated it!

jO5 Wed 21-Nov-12 15:25:14

Well done Gagagran. smile

relichunter Wed 21-Nov-12 15:39:21

after i retired 2 years ago ive actually felt no inclination to do anything my life is one big bore and want to get out of this can anyone help me please

Elegran Wed 21-Nov-12 15:45:59

Get a leaflet from the library on your Local Authority adult education classes, relichunter. The classes will be starting up again in January, and are on everything you can imagine.

isthisallthereis Wed 21-Nov-12 15:50:18

Bags I'll very impressed by yr running repairs to the motor car! I'd have just thrown it at the garage and looked feeble. While they ordered a new part at full-price, added VAT and labour, then stung me!

Mishap - "to rub in my leg, which is scaly and revolting and looks like a prehistoric reptile! I need a bath!!!" omg huge sympathy. Is the scaly skin just the temporary normal result of your leg being covered with a non-breathing, close-fitting plaster for X weeks? And it will recover 100% soon? I certainly hope so. All the very best with it, I think you're being very brave. Probably far braver than I'd be under the circs smile

Anyway puts my cold and cough = two days in bed in perspective!

Though yesterday, I got up and made myself some potatoes + two eggs for my lunch. The spuds were fine but the eggs made me (sorry about this) retch and very nearly throw up. I'm sure it was something caused by this bug. It was pretty extreme! I ate a perfectly OK lunch today, though I admit I did avoid eggs! In fact the very thought of eating eggs, even cooked hard, makes me feel queasy even now. The taste of the little bit of Maldon sea salt I'd put on them definitely contributed to the malaise. Strange, as I usually go out of my way to enjoy Maldon sea salt, one of my little luxuries!

Anyone any thoughts on this or suffered any similar symptoms? Not major, but very unpleasant.
