Things went from bad to worse; couldn't sleep last night, then was really late for work this morning as I was stuck in traffic [don't usually have to go into HQ at that time o day]. Cheered myself up by taking my credit card into town. Bought a cd from HMV and needed another one to get the 'two for £15', so the guy in the shop tried to send me downstairs to find 'one that I might like'; probably meaning the Daniel O'Donnell section sad. I did point out that the cd [Yeasayer] was actually for me but that I'd quite like a Best of Black Sabbath if they had one [they did]. Then bumped into a couple of friends that I hadn't seen for several years; recognised them straight away but I know they didn't recognise me cause I looked so much oldersad sad sad. Also bought some new jimjams from M&S as mine are all old and scruffy. Will now listen to Black Sabbath! And computer course didn't look quite so scary. And I did look rubbish because I was tired and I'd got hardly any make up on smile. Now for a brew. Oh, and EVERYONE was late this morning, not just me. Hurrah!

I got caught up rail chaos trying to get home tonight from Birmingham. Trains cancelled due to flooding in the a midlands, no information, no railway personnel to be seen. Announcements unintelligible, trains switched to different platforms at last minute, everyone asking 'what did they say'?

Had to walk to a different station and found equal chaos there. It took me 3 hours to complete a half hour journey. Grrrr. Felt especially sorry for one man with his guide dog in the awful crush, but he brought out the best in people as other travellers came to his aid.

Crikey; the infrastructure of this country just falls apart when it rains or snows, doesn't it. Glad the blind man was ok. Faith in human nature restored smile.

OMG, now I am even more concerned about Maniac whom I left at Macclesfield Station at 4.40pm to go back to Somerset where there has been a lot of flooding.

whenim64 Wed 21-Nov-12 20:41:09

Oh dear! I hope Maniac doesn't have to struggle to get home. Do you think she'll let someone know if she's ok Anno?

crimson Wed 21-Nov-12 20:47:24

I was just thinking about Maniac [I used my mobile today and I was thinking how proud she'd be of me as she gave me a lesson in Brum]. Mind you, I used my phone to tell me when my parking time was up and, as I was walking back to the car I kept wondering to myself why I could hear an alarm going off blush.

jeni Wed 21-Nov-12 20:51:58

Her home phone is going to answer phone. I've asked to let me know if she's ok.
I don't have her mobile no.

whenim64 Wed 21-Nov-12 21:06:53

Perhaps Anno also has her mobile number from picking her up today, but if we don't hear anything, crimson still has it. Maybe if we all worry enough, she'll get home with no trouble at all! grin

whenim64 Wed 21-Nov-12 21:08:25

Rewind, that's also a landline number. It's likely Anno has it, though smile

grannyactivist Wed 21-Nov-12 21:14:04

I do hope Maniac manages to get home. [worried emoticon]
My husband was on his way back from York today so I phoned him and asked him to check if his travel plans were still okay; he was on the station platform and just as we were talking it was announced that his train to Exeter would terminate at Birmingham. I was able to book him into a Travelodge in Birmingham for the night, but I suspect that many people will end up continuing their journeys by bus. Some parts of Somerset have been particularly hard hit.

jeni Wed 21-Nov-12 21:17:27

Bristol temple meads has been shut all day, so I suspect that she has got stranded. I'm worried as well as she's no spring chicken, but she is very competent. crimson did you get her mobile number during the lesson?

crimson Wed 21-Nov-12 21:17:46

I've only got a landline as well. Wonder if anyone from the Brum meet up has her mobile number?

jeni Wed 21-Nov-12 21:19:41

Ah! Barrow might. But I don't have her number.

whenim64 Wed 21-Nov-12 21:21:22

I've just texted Anno to ask if she has her mobile number. Fingers crossed. x

crimson Wed 21-Nov-12 21:22:58

I must go to bed; hope when I get up in a few hours for one of my nocturnal trips to bathroom we'll've heard from her.

crimson Wed 21-Nov-12 21:25:36

Just phoned my son to see if he's still planning to go to Bristol tomorrow and he's informed me that tomorrow is, in fact Thursday blush. I think I definately need some sleep....

jeni Wed 21-Nov-12 21:27:55

I've PM'd barrow..
I'm at work tomorrow , but will check tomorrow.

whenim64 Wed 21-Nov-12 21:29:42

Nope, Anno hasn't got it either. Hopefully, she will either get through ok or have a comfy night in a Travelodge. What a pain!

jeni Wed 21-Nov-12 21:34:27

She's ok, just got home from the station.

jeni Wed 21-Nov-12 21:36:57

She's just phoned. It took her 4 1/2 hours to get home.
She sounds ok!

whenim64 Wed 21-Nov-12 21:40:40

That's a relief! Thanks jeni smile

annodomini Wed 21-Nov-12 21:46:06

She's been on the phone to me too. Sounds like a chaotic journey but at least when she reached Bristol the train company laid on a taxi as her train was cancelled. So all is well.

whenim64 Wed 21-Nov-12 21:51:39

Oh, thats good to hear. Nice to see they are looking after their passengers. Glad you're home safe and sound Maniac we weren't REALLY worried! grin
