I just don't "get it"

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, just want to understand! I am at present confined to the sofa rather more than I would like to be as I have had surgery on my leg and am non weight bearing for 9 weeks. My OH is being fantastic and we are managing extremely well and whats more I truly appreciate what he is doing. However!! Can someone please explain to me why it is that:-
a) EVERY time we go out he looks at me as if I have asked for something strange when I say "could I have my shoe please", and then "please may I have my coat".
b) EVERY time he takes me upstairs and settles me in to bed (he likes to go to bed later than me) I have to ask him to put the big light out.
c) EVERY morning, when he goes down and leaves me to potter round getting dressed etc I have to ask him to pass the remote for the TV which he has used the night before so is on his side of the bed.
d) EVERY time he leaves the lounge to go and do things in the study/garage I have to ask him to pass the remote.
e) EVERY time I get to the bottom of the stairs I have to ask him to pass my slipper which we have left there the night before.
f) EVERY time I wash my hair I have to ask him to hand me the towel when I am dripping over the bath edge balanced precariously and have obviously finished.
Are you getting the gist? It is all so small and irrelevant, but we have been doing the same routines for a month now and I feel I would by now know what is required. I hate having to ask for help anyway, and manage to do most things by myself, but there are some things that I can't do. Bless him, he is a wonderful man but I think the fact that he is a man is the reason, or is that a very sexist statement? smile

Jeni- Please enlighten me, I can't stop puzzling over this one - What is the right way for a toilet roll- or does it depend on th etype of holder?

jeni Wed 05-Dec-12 19:13:16

With the tear off bit at the front, rather than the back!

Ariadne Wed 05-Dec-12 19:14:22

Oh, the loo roll has to go on with paper hanging downat the front, according to DH. Why? Search me. In other respects, he lives up to almost everything the rest of you have said. But, our finances are in good order, our savings intact, so he really is a bit of a wonder. Just in some departments...but they count!

jeni Wed 05-Dec-12 19:16:19

See, he agrees with me! Must be a good type!

Ana Wed 05-Dec-12 19:21:45

I agree too! It's just not right with the loose bit hanging down the back...

Ella46 Wed 05-Dec-12 19:52:48

Me too! It doesn't make sense to have it hanging at the back!

AlieOxon Wed 05-Dec-12 19:59:40

I think I solved this by not having a holder - I can't work out where to put one!

jeni Wed 05-Dec-12 20:38:52

grin

Yes, yes, yes the tear off bit has to be hanging at the front. I admit to being a bit obsessed over some things and have been known in the past to sort out people's toilet rolls. My daughter's have mentioned it. blush There is a reason toilet rolls are hung properly and it is because it is easier to pull the loo paper down if it is hanging correctly. Sheesh why don't some people realise that it drives me crazy slightly annoys some people when they see toilet paper hung the wrong way. confused

Thank you lovely people for your kind wishes, still hopping but doing ok!! I must admit to being set in my ways too but I figure after 62 years of life that is permitted, as obviously the way I do it after years of trial and error is the best way ;)
I do hope you are feeling a bit better "celebgran", it's amazing how one finds ways round things isn't it?

annodomini Fri 07-Dec-12 15:21:10

I always have my toilet roll hanging the right way and it drives me mad when someone (to be nameless) comes along and changes it to hang from the back. angry

GadaboutGran Fri 07-Dec-12 15:30:55

Thank goodness I've never heard of this 'rule' for 65 years - & never noticed any difference in the efficiency of the 'pull'. I'm just pleased when anyone bothers to use the holder. I also discovered late in life that the opening of pillow cases should face a certain way. I'm obviously badly educated or have too many other things to worry about.

nightowl Fri 07-Dec-12 16:16:20

I must be strange because I have to have the loo roll hanging the other way ie. so it pulls from the back. I fear it is too late for me to mend my ways now. I have obviously indoctrinated my family into my erroneous ways so I am responsible for a new generation of toilet roll inadequates. Perhaps it's genetic blush

Ella46 Fri 07-Dec-12 16:54:39

I thought it was just a man thing! nightowl shock

nightowl Fri 07-Dec-12 17:35:17

I also refuse to ask directions when lost Ella. Maybe I should have been a bloke grin

Faye Fri 07-Dec-12 17:47:37

I am the opposite Nightowl I have absolutely no sense of direction. Sometimes I have asked a few times, because I can't remember what the previous directions were. blush

Ana Fri 07-Dec-12 17:50:48

I won't ask for directions, either. And I'm hopeless at giving them!

Stansgran Fri 07-Dec-12 18:30:00

There is nothing wrong with any of the DHs just that they are slow learners and in my opinion the more letters after their name the slower the learning process.

GadaboutGran Sat 08-Dec-12 20:28:40

Back to the loo roll etiquette.
"Would you believe it, Mr Gad, all these people worried about correct loo roll procedure."
"Nothing new" says Mr Gad, "the Crystal Palace Bulletin Board debated this at length ... and Moneysavingexpert too - it recommends pulling from the back as it's harder for kids to pull off more than they need!"

So you're OK nightowl - you're saving the planet!

annodomini Sat 08-Dec-12 21:02:44

I was the Andrex puppy the other day. Loo roll in the ladies we use at the CAB was almost and I pulled it too hard. There was more than I thought and the whole lot came off.It is impossible to get loo paper back as it was originally!blush
