Does anyone else think that there is far too much petty bickering on GN

If you read the threads there is quite a bit of banter between members, I am sooo dissapointed at this because at our age we really should know better. It makes me feel un comfortable and I have actually been at the other end of such goings on. Really not sure what response I am going to get with this thread but can not help but be honest.

nana and crimson - please don't go. You have both been members of GN for ages and I have enjoyed your company, (Midlands meet-up)friendship and support. (Plus, crimson has good taste in sighthounds)
-Stop and think-
What was thepoint of this thread?
Why was it started?
How many people have felt hurt?
A can of worms has been needlessly opened and a lot of harsh thing said or implied which need never have been

I have held back from posting all day as I felt I too was being vilified and I no longer felt comfortable to be here, but when old friends like jeni, crimson and nanadog are getting caught in the crossfire I think it is time to say enough is enough
I have no problem with posts which stimulate healthy discussion - even the odd argument, but I have been able to discern no other consequence to this exchange of views than criticism and trouble.
In the interests of sanity, can this please stop here. If anybody has a grouse with an individual they are free to talk to that person in private, just as you would do in "real life", we do not to hear others pleading on behlaf of third parties about issues of which we know nothing. Peace, please.

Goodnight all. Please sleep on it, Nanadog. moon

Ana Sun 16-Dec-12 23:10:39

Well done, Nanadog has left.

Faye Sun 16-Dec-12 23:13:02

nanad do not go. sad

Ana Sun 16-Dec-12 23:16:21

She's already gone, Faye. sad

Faye Sun 16-Dec-12 23:17:49

crimson don't go either. sad

merlotgran Sun 16-Dec-12 23:18:13

When I saw the OP I decided this was a thread best left alone. We've had discussions like this before and they never end on a happy note. sad
Nobody should feel they need to leave.

crimson Sun 16-Dec-12 23:24:39

But it seems that it was my comment that made her leave and I don't really know what I've said that's so bad because I've never been aware of jeni saying anything horrid to anyone sad. Yes; it was a thread to be avoided at all costs. Should have carried on watching SPOTY. Only sneaked up here to have a crafty piece of cake without anyone seeing me [no calories if you do that...].

jeni Sun 16-Dec-12 23:33:59

It was apparently something I said that upset her! I still have no idea what. I have given her my phone number so that we could discuss
What more can I do?

I really HATE upsetting people, and I'm quite upset!

I'm now definitely to bed! Got to finish packing tomorrow!

Goodnight all!moon

Faye Sun 16-Dec-12 23:51:34

I am so so sad, I tried to PM Nanad and the message wouldn't go through, which means she has definitely gone. Nanad and I have had lots of pleasant messages and chats via PM but not emails so I won't be able to contact her again. sad

gramps Sun 16-Dec-12 23:57:30

I realise that some folks have been badly affected by whatever has been said ,or misconstrued, but we are all grown ups {!}
Can the episode be forgiven, even if not forgotten. After all, what is the point of depriving yourselves of the pleasure we all get from this Forum, which seems a "Lifeline" for a lot of members of GNeters! sad
I have not read the "offending" piece, so this advice is really a generalization!

Peoples pride has been hurt! You can rise above it!!

Gramps.

jeni Mon 17-Dec-12 00:27:59

Well said gramps!
The wisdom of the ages shows!

crimson Mon 17-Dec-12 00:32:10

jeni; you're supposed to be in bed [oops; so am I blush]...

jeni Mon 17-Dec-12 01:07:52

ZZZZZZZZ!

Ariadne Mon 17-Dec-12 05:27:44

Good morning!

jeni Enjoy your cruise. Xx

nana Please come back. I have been on GN for quite a while now, and would miss you a lot.

crimson Please don't go!

We are a virtual family here on GN, so we will inevitably argue, feel hurt and even attacked, but as gramps says, we can rise above it. The support and friendship here is invaluable. when said earlier that GN enhances her life, and I agree completely. You are all important, to me at any rate.

Barrow Mon 17-Dec-12 09:17:09

GN is a community and like all communities sometimes people disagree. It would be a far poorer community if people left because of something that was said. Please lets draw a line under any hurt feelings or misunderstandings and start again. I hope anyone who has felt the need to leave will reconsider and come back - everyone is valued

jO5 Mon 17-Dec-12 09:19:56

So, does that mean we've got to watch every single thing we say. In case someone takes umbrage.

Life's gonna get boring. hmm

Jodi Mon 17-Dec-12 09:26:50

And perhaps remember that PMs are private and nobody should ever be told again to leave GN.

Movedalot Mon 17-Dec-12 09:33:46

nellie you are a prime example of the nicer people on GN, the majority. We agree about JH and you were happy to clarify to me for which I am grateful. It would be so easy to enjoy GN if everyone were like you. Actually I hadn't meant it to sound like I was attacking your view, just standing up for someone I admire greatly. smile

Grannylin Mon 17-Dec-12 09:35:36

...and that Grans are grand mothers and not grand children and, and and....

Movedalot Mon 17-Dec-12 09:41:40

We can all leave it here but it will come up again. No one seems to have taken the point that it is usually fairly new GNs who bring up this topic, presumably not realising how many times it has come up before. As newcomers we can imo assume they are pretty impartial observers so perhaps they have a valid point.

Happy Christmas to all, even the unpleasant posters! grin
