On Thursday I was rushed into a local hospital for a suspected heart attack, I was then transferred by ambulance on blues and twos to another hospital 15 miles away where they had a cardiac unit. After a couple of traumatic days in hospital, where I have had superb nursing care, an Angiogram (my arteries were clear) I have been diagnosed with Myopericarditis, for which they are treating with medication (Steroids and Paracetomol. I am home now and gently recovering. No heavy physical activity for ten to fourteen days.

IAN...Did they say what caused it? Can be caused by virus apparently? Also, do you keep a mobile phone in your top pocket by any chance? Heard a few tales about that causing heart problems including possibly my son in law!!

Ian42 every time you feel like nibbling between meals, come on GN instead grin

I'm feeling a bit despondent at the moment, wondering if ever I'll get back to work. It is difficult to do something, I read, I browse the internet, I walk, I go up town (wish it was warmer and drier), listen to music and watch a DVD.

Ian don't! My husband had a heart attack 5 years ago and he needed stents (I mentioned it earlier on this thread) - it happened to him on the day he started a new job. He was at home for 3 months and was worried about getting back to work. Towards the end of that time when he had his final check up and was given the all clear, he started pottering around in the area outside our house (council verges) and started clearing it, "little and often". I think it was a parallell journey for him to get his strength back. Apart from the fact that he is now back at work full time and fit and healthy, the council were here late last year taking photographs of him and his 'guerilla garden' effort for their monthly newsletter (it is a thriving veg garden, he calls it his own personal allotment). Anyone who wants to can help themselves to the vegetables, strawberries etc, so he is rewarded in so many ways. The other thing he did was, he asked if he could stay in the 'cardiac rehab' group that he attended when he had the procedure and the hospital said yes. He goes to that faithfully too and has bonded with other 'heart patients' and always comes home with tales of newcomers. Best of luck with your recovery.

I've known loads of people who've made full recoveries and got back to work.

I'm going to the cinema tomorrow to watch Quartet, apparently it is very good, I'll let you know.

Grannyknot Wed 09-Jan-13 15:06:37

Hi Ian I think there's stuff about Quartet on the films thread too. Do let us know.

I'm getting on quite well. I walk into town then catch a bus home. Hoping to be back to work at the beginning of February.

Aren't emergency ambulances awful – built neither for speed nor comfort?

glassortwo Wed 16-Jan-13 21:50:37

Ian I'm sending positive vibes from a snow-free Kintyre.

gracesmum Sun 20-Jan-13 12:36:25

Try not to worry Ian42 he needs you to keep well too you know! You don't say how old he is, but swollen ankles/legs and needing water tablets is so common as we get older. flowers

My dad is 88, however we had to call an ambulance this morning and my dad now realises he is no longer as young as his mind think and has to do less. Of my dad isn't one for sitting around all day doing nothing, he feels he has to do something. Me and my brother and mum are looking after him now. Thanks to everyone.

yogagran Mon 21-Jan-13 13:25:52

How lovely for him that he has so many family members around him for support and love

Ian42 Mon 28-Jan-13 17:25:36

One thing after another, dad's legs are now infected and is taking antibiotics and has to visit the nurse every other day for a dressing change. I have taken on the cooking however that will be a little difficult from next week when I hopefully return to work.

Ariadne Mon 28-Jan-13 17:29:56

Well, Ian just remember to look after yourself so that you can look after him!

soop Mon 28-Jan-13 18:28:24

Ariadne Makes perfect sense. Delegate whenever possible, Ian

Ian42 Thu 31-Jan-13 15:12:41

First day back, and everything went smoothly, in fact better than I feared, and the boss was very understanding, of the conditions set by my doctor.
