Bolthole, anyone?

Every now and again, I feel the need for the sanctuary of a Gransnet Bolthole. I've got the logfire going, swept the snow away from the path, and the kettle's just about to boil. Tea and crumpets, anyone? smile

Just come in and make yourself comfortable kali we can all be ourselves in here, no need to performsmile I just want to sit quietly, mixed my drinks in here last night, vodka champagne whiskey an tea! It was definitely the brew that tipped me over the edge, shan't do that again.

Which tune do you sing it to when I know to versions. One is to the tune of 'Ee I Addio' the other to Chopin's Prelude in D minor?

Moved - so no invite to marvellous Malvern for me then grin

When I say 'cooked' breakfast I don't mean the full monty - just that I can't do sweet things like danish pastries, cereal, smoothies (yuk), fruit (aargh!) in the morning.

Yesterday I had smoked salmon & scrambled eggs on toast, and today baked beans on toast and 2 Quorn frankfurters.

I took the dogs out in the snow and had a terrible fright. Anyone want to hear about it?

Ana Sun 20-Jan-13 12:39:56

I misread that as fight, Kali!

Yes please.

River you can come but please go out for breakfast! I like fruit and yogurt if I have to have breakfast at all. I do because of my meds. DH says that a local hostelry does lovely hot breakfast though. smile

Not so sure I'll be wlecome if you are singing ladies, not unless you want the bolthole emptied very quickly grin

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:41:13

Yes, tell us Kali

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:43:29

Ok I'll set the scene. Deep snow here, more falling, hard to see. Walking up a grassy hill in blizzard, head down when I notice enormous animal track in the snow. A Lion? The Beast of Bodmin. I look around trying to make our shapes through the swirling snow and call my little dogs back safely to me.

Shall I go on?

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:45:26

Through the snow I hear these grunting and growling noises but can't place if they're in front, behind me or how close.

Ana Sun 20-Jan-13 12:46:17

shock

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:46:33

Then two enormous black bears come bounding down the hill straight towards us. I can't outrun them.

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:48:12

I can see their breath.

Ana Sun 20-Jan-13 12:48:53

So can I!

Movedalot Sun 20-Jan-13 12:49:37

and?

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:51:21

They skidded to a halt a foot in front of me. My heart was pounding I thought they were going to tear me and my dogs limb from limb.

Movedalot Sun 20-Jan-13 12:52:09

Are you in Amersham Kali

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:52:24

Don't do that, keep going! What happened next

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:53:19

Moved does that happened a lot in Amersham?

whenim64 Sun 20-Jan-13 12:53:58

.......(pops head round the door to check there's fresh tea).....Oh, that's nice, they're having a story........grin

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:55:27

Though the blizzard came a voice 'Poppy, Percy where are you?'

Poppy? Percy? Not very bear-like names.

I look more closely. Two long lolling tongues, hot steaming breath. One rolls onto its back. Inviting me to tickle its tummy. Heart slows to more normal pace.
Owner appears.

'What the hell are they?' I ask

'New Foundlands' explains a little elf-like lady, reattaching their leads.

Ana Sun 20-Jan-13 12:55:49

It's a very shaggy dog story...hmm

Ana Sun 20-Jan-13 12:56:24

Oh, sorry - that was to when blush

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:56:59

It' s lovely, and it kept our attentiongrin
