I just find it wrong that the Social Worker said it was better to be self financing as there would be homes available which the council can not use.
The social worker did not mention anything about top up or care in the least about where the daughter would live if the jointly owned house has to be sold.
We are sure the mother qualifies for NHS funding and we have advised the care assessment nurse we will get a solicitor involved if she does not get NHS funding.
We were advised to wait for the case to be looked at again before getting a solicitor involved.

I was allowed in to the assessment so I do not think confidentiality was an issue.

Have had dealings with a few social workers some were caring and helpful but some were right little Hitlers straight out of uni and thought they knew it all.

And he wonders why the Social worker was not welcoming!

Honestly.. because the general public only see a tiny bit of the work that is done by particular professionals some people think they can do the job better so they show no respect from the start.
I am not a SW but I have met loads in my life, in a range of situations. The vast majority wanted to be doing the right thing for their clients but I also saw them being abused and inappropriately challenged by Joe Public... it only made the job harder to get right!

I accept people in all walks of life make mistakes/have bad days..we are all human and we were all at the start of our careers once..how else do you ever get a job? So.. nothing is perfect not me not you. I have always found that by treating people in the way I like to be treated gets the results I like. I rarely have to get stroppy!

jerryatric, have you had dealings with any other professionals? Doctors? Nurses? Police Officers? Teachers? Probation Officers?

We did challenge the Social Worker when the Social Worker suggested the daughter dowsized the house.
The daughter is not legally obliged to do this.
It may be best for the council or NHS if the daughter downsized and paid the fees but it is not in the interest of the daughter to do so.

I have never had problems with Doctors, nurses, police officers or probation officers. I even married the daughter of my headmistress and one of my daughters is married to her teachers son.

I know the council or NHS will have to do something about the situation if they want her out of hospital.
The daughter is not legally obliged to sell the house.

I think the daughter is the priority as potentially she could have 40 years of life to live where as the mother will have nothing like that time.

Self funding was sugested and the social worker sugested nothing else. I was the first one to mention about top ups and NHS funding.
The council or NHS does not want to pay.

Would your anger /frustration be better targeted at the decision makers rather than the messengers?

Frank you do seem somewhat 'obsessed' about people suggesting that the family home is sold!

I am obsessed with people getting what they are entitled to.
If the offspring is a part owner living in the property the council can not take the property in to account as an asset and I think any Social Worker who sugests this should be sacked.

I wonder if you came across as over-focused on this issue, but without knowing the precise details of the meeting it is hard to comment on why the dialogue was not productive.

SW entitled to expect courtesy ..hope s/he had that all the time.
