I was looking for a forum on which to put only good news as I have had a nice bit of news today myself. However, I couldn't find one so here it is. No grousing, no disasters, just good news. Oh yes - my good news concerns my DiL who has today been interviewed for and been successful in getting a new job as assistant head teacher of a highly successful comprehensive school. She deserves it - she has a brilliant track record in her present school both as a subject teacher and as a manager. When I spoke to her, she was deservedly enjoying wine.

That is good news, anno. Congratulations to your daughter-in-law. smile

Greatnan Wed 06-Mar-13 21:30:04

That is very good news, anno.
My good news today is that I am buying my daughter and SIL a gas barbeque (they won't accept any payment for my six weeks stay here) and we are inviting my grand-daughter and her fiance and some good friends to a bbq on Sunday with their home grown pork on the menu.
The sun is shining, the new chicks are starting to fly out of their heated box, my daughter is having a wonderful time schooling her horse every day and the two teenagers left at home (girl of 15, boy of 14) get on wonderfully well together.
Happy days!

I'm glad it's still barbecue weather there, Greatnan. I heard that the test match was rained off at Dunedin - but that's usually a wet place, at the other end of South Island!

Greatnan Wed 06-Mar-13 21:34:35

I was told that Doubtful Sound is the wettest place on earth, but here in Nelson/Tasman there is a microclimate which gives very good weather - except the garden is desperately in need of rain!

That's great Jadey. It's good when they spread their wings. And Ella, your friend (and you) must be so relieved that there's no spread. smile

smile I like this thread. Congratulations to all those with good news to share.

My good news, is that the garden is looking cared for. Our hard work has paid dividends. Our friend [a gardener] spent some time yesterday clearing the deep front ditches and pruning the willow.

Have contacted a timber-home-kit supplier based in Scotland. Hoping for a sensible quote that will enable us to move forward with the wee hoos plans.

Our granddaughter, who is at Bristol uni', is enjoying the work she does with disabled and elderly people. In the evenings, she has been biking from her digs to the residential home - a forty min journey each way, and has been offered more hours if she needs them. My son has been looking out for a wee car for her 21st birthday gift. Having found just the car, she travelled to Oakham to pick it up. Her birthday isn't until October but now that she has her own wheels, she'll be better able to get around. What I like is that she tries her hardest to bring out the very best in those she assists. She has a lot to offer and many folk are very fond of her.

Marelli Thu 07-Mar-13 12:51:07

She must take after her Grandma, soop! smile

Elegran Thu 07-Mar-13 13:13:13

Some of those timber homes are gorgeous, soop , and better insulated than most "real" houses. You could be onto a winner there.
