I was looking for a forum on which to put only good news as I have had a nice bit of news today myself. However, I couldn't find one so here it is. No grousing, no disasters, just good news. Oh yes - my good news concerns my DiL who has today been interviewed for and been successful in getting a new job as assistant head teacher of a highly successful comprehensive school. She deserves it - she has a brilliant track record in her present school both as a subject teacher and as a manager. When I spoke to her, she was deservedly enjoying wine.

I have some good news.

I've just joined.

Should I be outside in Grandads shed, or am I welcome indoors?

Sam

My good news for today is that I have finally tackled chors that I had been dredding for a while, all done now sigh of relief.

soop Thu 07-Mar-13 13:46:20

smile Thank you.

With a kit house, we would need to go down the self-build route. What we would like, and what the planners will permit, are poles apart. We would love a timber/glass ultra-contemporary design. Planners are particularly fussy in this area. In order to achieve our goal, we will be bound to toe the line according to the rule book. Hope to get a price soonish. If so, I shall be back to share with you.

MadhatSam Grandads are as welcome as Grandmas. Depending on your sense of humour, you may enjoy meeting Pete and the gang in Lil's Bar...they are a happy bunch...'though the bar isn't what you might call "upmarket" grin

My Rock and Roll is coming along nicely and I've learned a new turn in the waltz! Also the antibiotics seemed to have finally got on top of the bit of gum infection that I had thought was toothache - that would have been expensive and painfull and darn inconvenient being as like we are orf on the cruise on Monday! sunshine

Perhaps we need a good news thread to be changed daily or the news may get lost . Think its a good idea as the World news is so grim. Won't go into it all as don't want to spoil the vibe. smile

I must say there are times when I find myself feeling jealous about others good news. Its not that I am not pleased for others, its just that at times when I am in full worry mode it just makes others lives seem so much better than mine.
Which given the troubles many other GNers have had makes me now feel very ashamed for not counting my blessings.

I must be wallowing a bit in self pity at the moment. sorry to all.

annodomini Thu 07-Mar-13 20:37:09

MadhatSam - a promising forum name! I reckon you will fit right in. Heartily welcome. wine Cheers!

Greatnan Thu 07-Mar-13 22:50:03

Nelliemoser - I know how you feel, because I get a pang when I hear about other members' happy families. of course I am glad for them, but it reminds me of my own heartbreak and constant worry about one daughter's mental and physical health.
On the bright side, I have one loving daughter, her husband, her six children, another grand-daughter and four lovely great-grand-daughters, a sister and her sons and their wives and some really good friends. I try to keep my sorrow in a separate compartment in my mind so it doesn't ruin my entire life.

Soop - one of my grand-daughters who is in her third year of a nursing degree here in Nelson, NZ, also works in a care home several nights a week. She loves the old people and find the work very rewarding. She does admit that some can be cantankerous, but she says that it is often understandable, given their health problems - some are often in pain.

I am off to an audiologist this morning - my daughter is sure that a hearing aid will improve my quality of life - I expect she is right.

Greatnan Fri 08-Mar-13 02:22:43

I got my hearing test and I have only mild to moderate loss of hearing and I got a discount off a good make - it will cost about 1,500 pounds. It will be good to be able to listen to the conversation in the car and not have the TV at full volume!

I found out last night that I don't have to work the weekend after all and will be home for Mother's Day lunch at my dd, dsil and dgs

My good news is that my daughter (a primary school teacher in Scotland) has been holding her parent evenings this week. After nearly one year in the school, the parents are getting to know her, trust her, and she has the most wonderfully supportive head teacher (she spent two years in a school where the head teacher "locked" herself in her office all day!)....

So, the teaching is becoming much more pleasurable and the parents are very open to her ideas to help their children. How different life is when people around you, accept you and help!

annodomini Fri 08-Mar-13 09:18:03

So I won't have to shout at you any more, Greatnan? (just joking!) grin

nanaej Fri 08-Mar-13 09:21:06

My good news was finding a collection of saved Garden Tokens left from my 60th birthday and when I left my school (2007!) with a value of over £100! I had a great time yesterday at RHS Wisley choosing a collection of clematis & climbing roses to help to cover my vast expense of bare fence! Am about to don wellies and raincoat and go and plant them all!

Galen Fri 08-Mar-13 09:49:26

It's Friday, and we always have wine and nibbles before supper on a Friday evening. Definitely something to be happy about smile

Ariadne Fri 08-Mar-13 11:52:58

I am on my own for a few hours! smile Theseus has gone off to pick up two DGDs at an Exeter service station (DS2 is flying over to Ireland to play rugby and DDiL is national atheltics coaching somewhere)

After the last five weeks with T, much as I love him, it is good to have a little calm and quiet.

He saw the physio today who told him he had made superb progress, then put him on the turbo charger bike; he is all chuffed with himself.

Now, what shall I have for lunch.....
