I was looking for a forum on which to put only good news as I have had a nice bit of news today myself. However, I couldn't find one so here it is. No grousing, no disasters, just good news. Oh yes - my good news concerns my DiL who has today been interviewed for and been successful in getting a new job as assistant head teacher of a highly successful comprehensive school. She deserves it - she has a brilliant track record in her present school both as a subject teacher and as a manager. When I spoke to her, she was deservedly enjoying wine.

Reflux is horrid for babies, glad it is sorted.smile

I had a lovely time today with 3 former colleagues who came for lunch. It was good to catch up. One had got married at Christmas and brought her wedding photos, another told me to 'hold the date' as she is getting married next Christmas. The 3rd friend had some lovely stories to tell about her year old baby boy. really good to hear the school was going from strength to strength in the hands of these lovely young women but have to say am glad it is not my responsibility any more!

Best wishes to all of you, baubles.

I have just got back from a three hour walk up a river valley (Aniseed Valley) with my daughter and her husband, in warm sunshine, with great views. Last night we had a bbq and her daughter and her fiance came over. I bought them the gas bbq as a thank you for having me to stay for six weeks and making so much effort to take me to interesting places. I am having such a lovely time with my family - I know I will be doing the right thing in emigrating.

Greatnan what a great name - Aniseed Valley. It sounds like something out of Willy Wonka! grin Keep your news coming - I am learning more about the world, as I Google these places when you mention them. Have a lovely day with your family smile

Lovely news, dear Baubles smile

Twenty two year old grandson, studying at London uni', was lucky enough to win a holiday for two in Barbados. He's taking his best pal and they aim to also "take in" New York...as you do! Realises he needs to earn extra dosh so he applied for a job as barman/waiter in a new trendy tapas bar. The interviews were to be spread over two days as there were many applicants. When he turned up for his interview, the manager was rushed off his feet and suggested that Will should hang around until the rush was over. Grandson took off his jacket and got down to washing the glasses and tidying the tables. Guess what...he was offered the job on the spot! grin

That's great news, soop - and isn't it a great feeling for us when they are justifiably proud of themselves, too?

Goodness me, so many kind comments. THANK YOU. grin

Greatnan Sun 10-Mar-13 19:25:22

Congratulations to you gs, Soop, he certainly deserves to do well.
My good news today is that I seem to have been able to use my training as a tax inspector to help my SIL get a very large tax rebate, using something called an Extra Statutory Concession. He was entitled to Seaman's Overseas Allowance but he emigrated part way through the year, but this ESC I have found makes it possible to claim for the months he was resident in the UK. He is very pleased with me! Nobody at HMRC thought to tell him about it.

Marelli Sun 10-Mar-13 19:33:01

They must have forgotten, Greatnan! grin No wonder SIL is very pleased with you!

sunflowersuffolk Sun 10-Mar-13 19:48:57

My good news is that my son unexpectedly came home yesterday, is staying until tomorrow - first time I have seen him since New Year. Gave him a great big hug smile

Some of you may recall I was VERY concerned about him a few weeks ago, and you were so lovely and supportive then. A week ago he was suddenly given a new shore posting and is finally off the ship where he was so unhappy.

He looks better already and seems a lot happier and is making plans for his future. So early days yet, but it has been lovely having him home, and fingers crossed his life will take a turn for the better.

As a Mum all you want is for them to be happy, healthy and safe.

Glad you've all had some lovely news too, and thanks again. flowers to all Mums.

Ana Sun 10-Mar-13 19:56:30

Very good news, sunflowersuffolk, you must feel so relieved! smile
