My daughters have complained my coats are getting scruffy.

My daughters have said that I have got to buy myself at least 2 new coats.
I have to admit I did notice they were fraying a bit just before Isabelle arrived and I was going to start looking at the first opportunity.
They are not looking after their inheritance by saying I have got to spend some money.

For goodness sake, get yourself properly turned out and looking respectable. You have standards to maintain!

Flowerofthewest Thu 04-Apr-13 22:13:21

I agree Frank, or get that needle and thread out.

janeainsworth Thu 04-Apr-13 22:14:12

No reason ever to lower your standards Frank wink

Ana Thu 04-Apr-13 22:19:32

Don't go looking too smart and respectable though, Frank - you don't want any of those women out there getting ideas...grin

I agree that my coats need replacing but I have not been able to get to the right shops this week.
I think Saturday will be my first opportunity to look and it may be Sunday or Monday before I will spend money as I want to look in a few places.
I have also just seen I need some new shorts for aerobics.
One of the women has said Tesco has some suitable shorts reduced in price.

Yes,go ahead buy new coats and take a daughter with you to help pick them out and help you overcome the sticker shock! Keep your old ones to wear when walking Andie and puttering around in the garden unless your old coat your talking about is a cashmere top coat. I hope your not trying to feed yourself on £ 18 a week!

Galen Thu 04-Apr-13 22:31:00

No! He's living on £56 a week!

I spend more than £18 a week on my granddaughters.
I thought the state pension is supposed to be used for your grandchildren's savings.

Galen

I am sure you are living on 56p a week.

HUNTERF Thu 04-Apr-13 22:38:59

Andie probably costs £18 per week when you include vet insurance etc.

I was trying to be funny,I read about the MP trying to feed herself on £18 a week.

Ana Thu 04-Apr-13 22:47:49

I didn't know the state pension was supposed to be used for our grandchildren's savings! Blimey, what are we supposed to live on, then? confused

(I mean those of us who don't have a London pension, of course...hmm)

Sorry Frank, I know I usually support you, but that's just a silly statement!

Galen Thu 04-Apr-13 22:47:57

Frank! I'm a very expensive person! grin

annodomini Thu 04-Apr-13 22:56:54

Since when was the state pension for GCs' savings? Ah, Frank, now that's a wind-up if ever I saw one.

HUNTERF Thu 04-Apr-13 22:58:34

Ana

Same here Galen I am fond of my lifestyle and don't intend to cut corner's now.
Frank have a look on Landsend for coats for men mr.glamma has had a couple of very very good quality coats from them over the past year or two.

HUNTERF Thu 04-Apr-13 23:10:00

glammanana

I will take a look. My old coats are still functional so I can take a couple of weeks to decide if I want.

Is a state pension based on how much you paid in like the US social security?

Granny23 Thu 04-Apr-13 23:21:33

Best place to find 'gentlemen's' coats is in thrift shops in posh areas. Often seldom worn as bought by wife and ignored by husband who preferred his scruffy old one. grin

glammanana Thu 04-Apr-13 23:26:36

Envious my state pension is based on the years that I paid into the system I think when I got mine it was 30yrs for full amount (can't remember how much it is) I also have a couple of private pentions that I paid into via the Companies I worked for which is paid separatley and with working abroad and paying into the Spanish system I am entitled to a Spanish pension of 40% of whatever their full pension is in 2 yrs time.

Glammanana so someone making say 60,000 a yr. would get the same as someone making 25,000 a yr. if they work the exact same amount of years?

glammanana Thu 04-Apr-13 23:51:22

Yes as far as the State Pension goes, but people also pay into a pension scheme if their Company run one or you can join one of your own choosing,Frank is the best for this information really I just know I have enough to be comfortable and not to have to worry about things,I am lucky also to have mr.glamma so am blessed really.
Hope this makes sense for you sweetie,I'm off to my bed now I have been up since 6.30am and need some zzzz's moon
