www.stylist.co.uk/people/lucy-mangan/why-are-we-so-mean-to-our-vaginas-read-lucy-mangans-latest-stylist-coloumn#image-rotator-1 was reading about this on my way home on the train. Suffice to say it involves papaya cleanser, moisturising masks and a pair of tweezers. Interesting that the columnist in part blames the porn industry and its demand for a specific 'look' - and (I've learnt from earlier threads) for some people watching porn is normal. Of course for some this would be the ultimate beauty and rejuvenation treatment I guess. As the columnist says "What the hell is going on?!" Who does this sort of stuff to themselves? It almost feels like a form of self-harm.

Thank God I'm a child of the sixties, I barely had my first "wax" (I don't even think it was called bikini wax back then) when I joined the 'wherever you may be let your hair grow free' brigade and nowadays I'm pleased to have public oops I mean pubic - hair at all.

I have no body hair at all, underarm, legs or anywhere else. I thought it was a normal part of ageing but apparently not, according to this thread.
Wonder what caused mine then. Menopause I presumed.
Not a topic I could raise with my friends, so thanks, Gransnet!

It seems to me that this is something my daughter's generation is into much more than ours ever was. I've only been "shaved" twice - once when my daughter was born in 1974 (that was the 'norm' in those days here in the States), and then once about 5 years ago when I decided to try it on myself because my pubs were so thin and silver and very thinned out that I thought I looked "odd". The worst part (both times) was the regrowth period. I don't think I'd ever do it again. I am not married and don't have a significant other at this point in my life, so I really don't see any point in doing it. However, if I did find a partner and our relationship looked to be something that was headed towards a long-term relationship I can't honestly say that I'd be against doing it again, if my mate preferred "hairless". Frankly I thought it did look better that way too. And to be quite honest the thinning and the silvering of my pubs are unsightly to ME! I never was one to have lots of hair in that area to begin with anyway. Growing up I was best friends (still am) with an Italian girl and she had an abundance of 'growth' down there. She ended up going to an electrologist and having the part that was visible when she wore a bathing suit taken off permanently. She also had the hairs on her upper lip and around her mouth and chin area done as well. She loved it and said it was the best money she'd ever spent! Now that I am older (beyond menopause) I have hairs on my upper lip and around the corners of my mouth and on my chin as well, and I'd love to have them removed permanently. They're a real pain to pluck. I do use a shaver type product called Enjoi that pulls the hair down to the root - it works well, but hurts too sad Especially now that at my age (I'm 61) it's very difficult to pluck them out myself. Plus the electrologist is permanent. I just hate having to 'Enjoi' or PLUCK ever week or two! Electrology is not a cheap procedure though here in the States. As years pass I keep wondering if I should just keep plucking away, haha!

Have any of you ever heard of the procedure of "bleaching" that's become quite popular (around the anal area - sorry for such bluntness but I don't know how else to put it). Ladies are actually going in and having this procedure done to lighten the skin around the anus. I know, I know! It sounds very weird to me too, but they're actually doing it here. I don't understand why this has become such an issue. Who's actually LOOKING down there (besides your doctor) anyway, haha! And another thing that seems to becoming popular is something I've just recently read about where they go in and use a solution of some type to "tighten up" a woman's vagina!?! According to this article this was another procedure that's becoming popular with the "younger women/girls". Good grief at the things women are willing to do, is all I can say, UGH!

Any comments would be appreciated (and interesting, I'm sure :-o

Sorry to have this be my very first post on this blog. It's all a bit embarrassing to me, as well sad But interesting, just the same, haha! (sorry, I laugh when I get nervous, hehe).

Keep plucking GrammaK it is less painful if you grab them as they appear. I call the ones at the corner of my mouth pussy whiskers because they are so tough.
The other unmentionable subject, well, they are not doing it for the Doctor or for themselves so it must be for a man. There is not a man walking this earth I would do that for grin

There's no way I'd let any man that close to my bum! shock
