Don't really feel like going on holiday.....

This post is going to seem quite mad. I know that I am very privileged to have the opportunity to go away on a 2 week holiday in France starting Thursday. I am sure that many of you would love to have the chance.

But.......I just feel really low about it and am not looking forward to it, for many reasons. My OH has PD and this will curtail drastically what we are able to do; and he is also a very anxious person and will not want to go out anywhere once we get there - and the journey there (for which I will have to do the driving) will be stressful because of his anxiety.

I am limping about in pain with problems from broken foot, so have to use crutches most of the time outdoors; so any walks that I might have planned when I booked the holiday will not be possible.

The place we will be staying has no TV or Wi-Fi and no mobile reception, so if the weather fails us we will be thrown into each other's company - and his anxiety is very infectious and difficult to manage. It drags me down.

I suppose I am just being silly; but just at the moment I would feel happier to be here at home in our lovely cottage with all my friends and family around me. They keep me going.

Also - on the way there I will visit my Dad in a home and, although he is doing as well as we could hope there, it is so sad to see him as he is now; and on the way back I am meeting with my siblings to go through all his belongings ready to sell the house - I am really not looking forward to that.

OK - tell me to pull myself together! - tell me how lucky I am.

article about dongles

Not sure one would help though. Think coverage might be the issue.

Books/kindle will be better anyway! smile

That is really useful JO - many thanks indeed for posting this.

I am feeling a bit less flaky about it all having taken the decision to go for it - still not looking forward to it, but hope that time will prove me wrong and that all will go well.

Oh Mishap I hope you can manage to have a relaxing time BUT how many of us grans do things we don't want to do because we feel we HAVE to. Why are everyone else's feelings more important than ours? I suppose we are to old to change (speaking for myself here). confused That is a whole other thread though!!

If the sun is shining and you can relax and read I am sure you will enjoy it.

The forecast for Morbihan for next week on XCW, which is usually quite accurate, is sunny with fluffy clouds, except Monday which is more overcast with a slight chance of a shower. Temperatures in the upper teens and a bit of a breeze, so it'll be rather nice in a sheltered spot with a glass of wine and a good read!

It is a lovely area and, from memory, the natives are quite friendly around there. I hope it all goes well for both of you. (Holidays can be cut short. Our last two breaks have been truncated due to my mother's condition). Good luck wine wine wine

Anyone got a reliable one for Norwegian fjords next week?
I was in tears at lunchtime in the tribunal today stressing about this holiday!
Normally my biggest worry is which evening dresses to take!
This IS NOT ME!

harrigran Tue 11-Jun-13 23:10:55

From Saturday the weather in Oslo is going to be warmer than here Galen with some days having full sun, enjoy smile

annodomini Tue 11-Jun-13 23:18:09

Norwegian online forecast, Galen. It gives worldwide predictions but probably the home ones are the most reliable.

Mishap - how are you feeling about your holiday now?

We have cancelled holidays because of various crises and we always rationalise it by thinking that the money has been spent so whether we go or not makes little difference but, we might expect to save money by staying at home and not spending petrol, eating out etc. My husband says that is a Mrs Gambol approach but it seems reasonable to me! grin

If you really don't want to go - don't. You have had quite enough to contend with lately and you deserve a rest! smile

Nelliemoser Wed 12-Jun-13 10:58:52

Mishap Galen I hope it all goes OK for you both. hugs

If you are clear in your mind about all the things that can go wrong and you've packed your E111 cards and have AA insu, rance to get you home your phone charger and enough books it will b e fine. Every time I pack it includes something I didn't take in previous years and was vital for survival. Codeine ,cipro, tweezers, are among things I have had to mime in foreign parts. Last time DHwas sea sick one night never having been so before in his life. I always feel a sense of surprise when I walk through the front door after a holiday thinking well you survived that one. All my sympathy to you.

I love holidays now I am on my own - when the children were young we could afford only self catering, mostly in caravans in Wales, Cornwall or Scotland. My dear ex-husband would be very happy fishing all day, or sailing his boat, whilst I was left to entertain the girls and do all the domestic chores I did at home, but without the usual appliances. He often insisted that we all go along with him (doing what he wanted, of course) and I remember sitting under raincoats on Chesil beach while he fished. No toilets, and two young children. Just one of the reasons why he is an ex!
I have taken my sister on holiday ever year for about 30 years and whilst I love her dearly, it is quite a relief not to have to worry about her. She is rather intolerant, and I was always tense in case somebody smoked near her, or children ran around in the restaurant, or the accommodation was not to her liking. The fact that I paid for everything made no difference! This year, I am taking her on a cruise on the River Moselle and I will be keeping my fingers crossed that she likes it.

Things not great at all - migraine problem during the night and feel hopeless and weepy this morning. I truly do not want to go but everything is packed and OH wants to go ahead, so I am gritting my teeth as best I can, although I feel quite appalling.

When I get back I am going to have to get a grip on this migraine problem as it is blighting my life. Nothing seesm to stop it and it is making me feel so ill - acute pain in right eye and ear and weird jittery symtoms of movement in my limbs. OH says it is extra-pyramidal syndrome - the name helps not one jot - I just want it to stop.

I am sure that stress plays a part, but that cannot be wiped out.

j08 Thu 13-Jun-13 10:19:19

Mishap we will hold your virtual hand all the way there. Go well.

And when you get back, perhaps a visit to the doc? You have a lot to deal with. There is help available.

smile

sunseeker Thu 13-Jun-13 10:24:29

Hope you manage to enjoy your holiday Mishap. I'm due to go away next week and I am regretting booking it - and I don't have the problems you have! As j08 says, do visit your doctor when you get back, if only to sort out the migraine problem [hugs] flowers

Ana Thu 13-Jun-13 10:28:04

I second what jingl and sunseeker have said, Mishap - I do hope you manage to enjoy your holiday, and yes, you must get help when you come home. Good luck.

Ella46 Thu 13-Jun-13 10:36:09

Mishap I'm a migraine sufferer and I'm not sure that you should be undertaking a long drive with a migraine that won't go away.

Tegan Thu 13-Jun-13 10:48:55

Have you tried piotifen? People I know that have migraines swear by it. My neighbour has said that for the first time in years he can plan car journeys without worrying about getting a migraine whilst driving.

Tegan Thu 13-Jun-13 10:54:50

...should have typed pizotifen...

Greatnan Thu 13-Jun-13 11:12:28

I believe acupuncture has helped some migraine sufferers - it didn't help me, but perhaps the doctor who administered it was not very good.
In the past, I have had to find a layby and just lie on the back seat for an hour or so until I could trust myself to drive.
