Not sure I would How do people think of these weird things?

Wonder if it could be classed as religious. Or not?

Hello again, bluebell - feel free to have a go, it seems to be open season at the moment! smile

Galen Thu 13-Jun-13 20:36:43

Don't like it! Doesn't upset me!
Just can't see what the point of it is?

Bags Thu 13-Jun-13 20:48:53

Does art need a 'point'?

j08 Thu 13-Jun-13 21:24:11

Why are all the threads on Gransnet getting so confusing?

What has ana agreed/not agreed with? What does jess wish for?

Break dancing is getting a bit passe isn't it? I think even my grandson might be growing out of it.

Ana - I answered the question - I am not sure why you thought I should have added my opinion about what other people might think.

Ana Fri 14-Jun-13 12:25:08

Simply because your answer was 'Why not?', Greatnan.

Ana Fri 14-Jun-13 12:28:14

However, I accept that you only meant that you yourself can see no reason to object to the wall painting.

petallus Fri 14-Jun-13 13:00:04

It doesn't appeal to me much. Poor Jesus! He is usually shown pinned to a cross, now as an alternative he is in this uncomfortable position with his loin cloth looking as though it is about to come undone.

nanaej Fri 14-Jun-13 13:15:10

I'm not a loin cloth expert but did not realise they had a nappy bit underneath..thought they were worn commando style like kilts!

In answer to OP I would not object but could see if it was all I could see when I opened my curtains in the morning I might think differently. if it is in a public and non-residential space then it is pubic art and I like the concept even if I don't always like the pieces!

j08 Fri 14-Jun-13 13:19:38

I would prefer a few flowers. Or a nice river scene. smile

Galen Fri 14-Jun-13 13:21:07

Tutankhamen's loin cloths were found in his tomb. They were vast! He must have had very large hips.

Galen Fri 14-Jun-13 13:22:08

Thinking of loin cloths, do you think 7 pairs of knickers will be enough to pack?

j08 Fri 14-Jun-13 13:22:09

OR - something historical about the city. Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his bridge. Or the SS Great Britain. ( think he built that)

j08 Fri 14-Jun-13 13:22:36

Only you know that Galen. #tenalady

nanaej Fri 14-Jun-13 13:27:01

A pair for every day plus a couple of spares for when you may shower during the day and want to put clean knickers on! or if you are my DH not enough for every day so he is forever rinsing pants in the sink and hanging them up to dry in the bathroom.. poor chambermaids blush

Galen Fri 14-Jun-13 13:27:22

Yes he did jingle, and why have a painting of the ship when we have the real think. Restored and in the dock in which she was built.
My favourite Banksy was in park st of a man hanging by his fingertips naked out of a window!

nanaej Fri 14-Jun-13 13:28:59

J08 I agree the subject matter is not my particular cup of tea but it is at least an interesting discussion point.grin

j08 Fri 14-Jun-13 13:31:27

naughty man - what's he been up to?

Galen Fri 14-Jun-13 14:08:01

Yip, that's the one! It got defaced by some vandals! (The blue paint)

Galen Fri 14-Jun-13 14:09:20

Nanaej I don't possess 17 pairs of pants. Do you?

nanaej Fri 14-Jun-13 15:05:52

yes I do!!blush

sunseeker Fri 14-Jun-13 15:13:07

I actually quite like it (the painting). The area where it has been done (Stokes Croft) has become quite bohemian so this painting does fit in with the area.

Galen when I go on holiday I add the number of days I will be away, double it and add 2 or 3, just in case, and thats how many I take. DH once persuaded me to take less and to wash them overnight, so I did - leaving them to dry on the balcony. Woke up the next morning to discover my knickers festooning the trees around Waikiki beach blush

Movedalot Fri 14-Jun-13 16:22:06

No, I wouldn't want it in my town. We have a rather wonderful one depicting local things like our beautiful hills and Morgan cars which I think it more appropriate. That's why not.

Why do people need to get at others? What did that achieve?

Elegran Fri 14-Jun-13 18:06:59

I've read the whole thread over again and can't see anyone getting at anyone else, Movedalot, you must have been feeling particularly sensitive.

As a general principle, what you are saying is the truth. No-one needs to "get at" anyone else. It spoils a thread for everyone else, as well as those being "got at".

petallus Fri 14-Jun-13 18:16:06

'Pubic art' nanaej ? grin
