Are our views always entrenched?

Somebody said to me recently that she thought people's views on such matters as politics and religion were so entrenched by a certain age that nothing would change them.
Well, I have had my own views on religion very much modified by a certain member of Gransnet, who has answered all the questions I have wanted to ask for years, with infinite patience, kindness and warmth, never taking offence.
No, Gransnet is not my Road to Damascus - I will always be an atheist and she certainly has not tried to convert me. What she has done is show me how much her church means to her and some of the good it is doing throughout the world. Oh, she agrees that there is much that needs changing, but she explains that it is like having a family member that does things you don't like, but you still love them. Change is taking place at grass roots level and she hopes it will filter up to the men at the top (yes, they are all men!).
When she first joined GN, I would never have envisaged that we could become such close friends and I thank her for not giving up on me!

Turinng sick and dizzy when looking down from a height is not wimpyness - it is a bodily vertigo reaction to the mismatch of images reaching the brain from each eye when you move even the tiniest bit. A kind of motion sickness.

I was joking, of course, Anno was a perfect passenger on all the mountain roads, even when the track descended into broken bricks and tree roots. She knows I like to tease her - but she still keeps coming back and I look forward to her visits immensely.

Still chuckling over a 17 point turn. That made my day. grin

It's true, I was never scared on the Alpine roads - Greatnan really is a good driver and that isn't flattery!

I'm chuckling over the fact that she actually COUNTED them. grin

I do hope the jolly threesome who are feeling sick will recover well. Poor things.

Notso - I watched those programmes about the world's most dangerous roads, although it did make me feel a bit queasy! I thought that nobody could have died or they wouldn't have shown the programme! Did you see the one about the mountain in China with a tiny path clinging round it - that really made me feel weak at the knees - literally.

Merlot - I wanted to see if I had beaten my previous record - I had!

Bags I have no idea about the others but even the thought of any vaguely winding or rising and falling transport makes me feel very sick. No one was happier than me when they opened the tunnel to France.

annodomini Mon 24-Jun-13 11:30:04

I should make it clear that the 17-point turn did not happen in my presence so there is no independent verification. grin

I avoid watching programmes like that Greatnan, just reading your description of the tiny path in China makes me feel week at the knees.
