Andy Murray forgot his mum

With all the sad son/daughter relationship problems I read about on here (including my own), was it wrong of me to take some small comfort from the fact that Andy Murray forgot his mom when hugging friends and family after his win? My thought was - it's not just me then ! Obviously he was overcome, but she's been there throughout it all - felt a bit sorry for her.

I wonder where she was when he went up to the box? He said he could hear her squeaking as he was getting back down. Good job he went back grin

She seemed to be sitting separately from his other friends/family. Someone had to remind him to go back.

She had moved to the back of the box for some reason. I don't think he forgot her but he was eager to get back to the court. Maybe she just didn't want to push herself forward. Thankfully others ensured she didn't miss out on a well deserved hug.

Sorry, KatyK but your post smacks of schadenfreude.

Surely she had gone to the loo!

I don't think he knew what planet he was on, let alone who he had or hadn't kissed.

KatyK Sun 07-Jul-13 18:20:49

That's true. I think I have a bit of a complex !

Tegan Sun 07-Jul-13 18:24:33

Know what you mean. From an opposite point of view I was upset years ago when my ex husband got his degree and invited his mum and dad but not me [even though we were living together at the time and I'd been up night after night typing it all up for him on an ancient typewriter [along with going out to work to pay for his studies sad]. As you can see it still bothers me 40 years later!

KatyK Sun 07-Jul-13 18:28:59

Tegan - I can see why, how unfeeling of him! I realise Andy was totally on another planet and I know being a left out mum is 'my thing'. Sorry Andy.

Judy has never been so controlling as some tennis parents - the Williams sisters' dad, Sharapova's dad, Bartoli's dad.... But she has always been there to cheer him on. She's also been coach to other players and is now captain of the British Federation Cup team.

merlotgran Sun 07-Jul-13 18:33:57

She can now go back to being the alien mum in the Argos advert!

Sorry but I think of Judy Murray every time I see it. grin

I don't think he forgot his Mum, she was not sitting in the players box as she usually does. I don't think he knew where she was sitting, she was with the Davis Cup Captain. Coz as Anno said she is the womens Fed Cup Captain. I don't think public displays of affection are top of that family list!! Follow Judymoo on twitter, she's ace, relentless promoter of tennis for kids and a cake addict! smile have a look.

Perhaps she couldn't bear to watch and had stepped outside for a breather- don't know - didn't watch it. (what heresy!!!)

Hmm I did wonder! Everyone else had got their hug and surely his Mum was the prime mover all those years ago. She'd have been happy whatever though. Proud Mum moment!

He was knackered, hot, dehydrated and stunned. An official had sent him off to hug people (photo ops). She probably had been to the loo.
Great sporting weekend folks. A Scotsman wins Wimbledon, The mainly Welsh British-and-Irish lions win the test series against Australia with a resounding win in the final match and Chris Froome (born in Kenya but now an honorary brit) in the lead representing Uk's "team Sky" in the Tour. Us Celts and colonials will let you English folk bask in the reflected glory grin

KatyK Sun 07-Jul-13 20:03:41

Yes he was all over the place and probably didn't know what day it was but when Sue Barker interviewed him
she said 'you forgot your mum' and he said 'yes I did'. As I said it's my left out mum syndrome rearing it's ugly head again. No one else probably noticed !

Andy Murray once wrapped himself in the Brazilian flag when England had a key match against them. He was quite outspoken in his anti English views. How quickly we forget.

Alex Salmond was there, waving a large Saltire. I'm sure he'll find a way of making political capital out of this triumph. Nothing if not an opportunist, is Salmond!

I wouldn't have cared two hoots. Plenty of time off camera to enjoy being with a son and his success. What a terrific achievement. What a great athlete.

Tegan Sun 07-Jul-13 20:41:21

Y'know what. Whatever the press makes of it, the majority of people in this country are rejoicing that a young man that wept openly before us last year has come back and won. It's the press that keeps going on about the 'British Win; not Joe public. I don't actually know where Fred Perry originated from but no ones going on about the fact that Scotland have never won Wimbledon before. There may be plenty of yobbish football fans out there but, when it comes to sport in general we are very fair in our amiration for great players whatever their nationality.

Nonu Sun 07-Jul-13 20:43:08

That is well said Tegan !!!

annodomini Sun 07-Jul-13 20:49:41

Fred Perry came from Stockport - its most only famous native. The new Social Services building beside the Town Hall is named 'Fred Perry House'.

Is it all over now then? Thank flipping goodness!

feetlebaum Sun 07-Jul-13 22:08:50

It's only a game... (ducks)

I've got a lot of housework to catch up on blush
