When I cut the grass verge outside my house yesterday it was covered with dead brown leaves. Looking up I could see that the leaves on the trees were beginning to go brown round the edges. Today I went up the garden and under the hazel tree, as well as unripe hazelnuts, again there were autumnal dead leaves. Even the sun is taking on a yellow autumn tinge.

The vegetable plot, almost bare until mid-June has bare beds again. The broad beans are over as are the new potatoes, and strawberries and the onions are dug up and drying out.

Summer was lovely while it lasted, but it didn't last long.

It was lovely in Oxford the last three days on my mini-break! Got home to Surrey and the sun was quickly hidden by clouds! We have windows open but i have a cardigan on!

When I leave for work around 7.00ish you can smell Autumn in the air and the same when it goes dark during the evening.

It is beautifully warm here, with a gentle breeze, and no real signs of autumn. Yet.

The very first hint of an Autumnal morning. Still, quiet and softly misted. Yes, janthea there's a scent of change. A beautiful beginning to the day.

Here in Fife, I haven't yet felt any change towards Autumn. No leaf fall, only a slight dip in the temperature early and late in the day and certainly no need for extra layers or heating. I sat in a friend's' garden yesterday in 22 plus degrees watching the geese and ducks on the loch and it still felt like mid-summer. The flower beds were in full bloom and look as if they will last for weeks to come. Autumn usually happens when the school starts which is in 10 days time, but perhaps this year it will be later..... sunshine
