Welcome, berdie, nice to have you on board. I have many lovely men in my family now - grandsons, grandsons-in-law, son-in-law - they have changed my mind about men! I am afraid many of the men I knew of my generation and older were taciturn, sexist and generally useless, and that includes my father, uncles, brother, husband, brothers-in-law and the husbands of most of my friends. There were honourable exceptions, of course, and I am sure all our GN men are amongst them!
I am not sure that the kind of woman who would rise to the top in politics would necessarily be an improvement on the kind of man who does, although Merkel seems O.K.

I have great respect for Angela Merkel, and Julia Gillard in Australia, I'm convinced she was a threat, because she spoke common sense, and that frighten's male MP's. So sadly, she had to go.

I was quoting my own OP. I think I am entitled to say the truth of what I have found on Gransnet, am I not? I have made so many friends and had such wonderful sympathy and support from the huge majority of members. That was why I posted the thread - to point out how very nice this forum is, compared with many others. Long may it continue.

I'm sure we could all think of people who have not been treated with sympathy/kindness by members of Gransnet. My sister had it suggested to her that her "emotional stability" was in doubt. Needless to say, she doesn't post on here any more.

I can't remember the post you refer to, Ceesnan, but there's nothing stopping your sister posting, is there?

I thought it would be nice if we just concentrated on the pleasant aspects of Gransnet - of which there are many.

No, there is nothing to stop her posting apart from her dislike of confrontation. I was out of the country at the time and not interested enough to follow GN while away or I might have persuaded her to grow a thicker skin and keep going.

Ceesnan, you must have found something pleasant to keep you here, and I hope you always will.
