kitty I sent you [hugs] but 1000 messages later means that we need to open an extension.

It's been a strange day. Apart from worrying about the whereabouts of Greatnan I've not been very productive. The weather is behaving in an unsettled fashion. Inky clouds, Lashing rain. The promise of a brighter sky. Please keep coming to the kitchen. I would miss the company of you lot if you stayed away. smile

kitty Your wish is my command. Help yourself to all the goodies on offer. Deep breath and reeeeeeeeeeeeeeelax. Tomorrow is a new day. sunshine

Oldgreymare Mon 11-Nov-13 16:50:14

Oh dear Kitty, hope your cunning plan works.
I had to go on a mission yesterday, what a waste of a lovely sunny day! I had tipped a cup of coffee over the keyboard which then went all gaga. I now have a shiny new keyboard, mouse and mousepad.
Mind you Bath did look lovely in the pale golden light so it wasn't all bad.
Bother I missed the scones, jam AND cream..... hmm

soop Mon 11-Nov-13 17:07:16

Never fear, OGM* there is something tasty for you in the cupboard. Bath certainly is a beautiful city. We often visited it when we lived in England. I'm glad that you have managed to find a replacement for your keyboard, mouse etc. I ruined a television a VERY long time ago. Placed a vase of flowers on it [don't ask me why] and then managed to knock it over...panic stations. I felt such a twit. which is precisely what I was. blush shock

What a relaxing place this is, soop. I have been to our writers' group this afternoon. A very nice crowd, but somehow I couldn't get enthused. Always sleepy after lunch!

gracesmum Mon 11-Nov-13 17:18:56

Oh dear OGM - that reminds me of the apocryphal story of the lady who texted her husband at work on an icy morning saying (or so he thought ) that she was unable to get her car going. "Windows frozen" Helpful man texted back "try pouring warm water" Her reply was "No use, computer completely buggered now"

Oldgreymare Mon 11-Nov-13 17:24:09

gracesmum smile

annodomini Mon 11-Nov-13 17:34:12

I do hope that story's true, g'mum!

Need a bit of TLC and cake - grandson has pneumonia again and poor activistdaughter is dealing with both him and teething baby, but I've been forbidden from riding to the rescue as I'm still recovering from my last illness. [bit glum emoticon]

Lona Mon 11-Nov-13 19:43:09

grannya If your dd is anything like you, she will cope admirably.
Put your feet up and stop worrying, it won't help! flowers

Lona Mon 11-Nov-13 19:56:06

That sounded a bit sharp, I didn't mean it to, grannya. I hope he gets some relief quickly from the meds.

gracesmum Mon 11-Nov-13 20:48:42

I wonder how often drs don't or can't dish out the big gun anti-b's. Some of the ones we know from our DCs childhood just don't seem to hit pneumonia. Best of luck and I do hope he is better soon.

Tegan Mon 11-Nov-13 20:54:49

I don't understand the different types of pneumonia; does the vaccine we now get when we're 65 [?] reduce the chance of young children getting it or is it completely different [I know there's bacterial and viral]. At least young children are being given the flu vacc this year.

Bez Mon 11-Nov-13 20:56:47

Oh - can you push up and make room for me - have not managed to get in here for ages - been out shopping to a Mall here in US and able to get a really warm coat - Landsend down filled one plus a couple of T shirts. Had an offer on30% off and I had a card also with 30% off - both discounts were applied !!!!! Came away with a real bargain.

Soop my DD is 50 tomorrow (12th) - hardly seems possible. She is away celebrating in Bruges and Brussels.

I have got some freshly made pretzels in my bag here - hope you like them - some are cinnamon ones - go well with coffee.

Will just have a snooze here now in this nice warm comfortable place.

Elegran Mon 11-Nov-13 21:14:52

Galen can probably tell you a lot more about pneumonia, Tegan but on this page it says that "Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung tissue affecting one or both sides of the chest that often occurs as a result of an infection. Infection can be caused by a lot of different micro-organisms – viruses (eg respiratory syncytial virus), bacteria, fungi (eg histoplasmosis) and parasites. In addition to infection, pneumonia can also be caused by corrosive chemicals breathed into the lungs or toxic smoke inhalation from a fire."

And on this one it talks about the different types of vaccination, and who gets what.

gracesmum Mon 11-Nov-13 21:17:07

I don'tvknow Tegan just that a cousin's wife has a nasty lung condition which means she gets chest infections on a rolling basis and the treatment is always the same: an anti -b which does not clear it, a recurrence which lands her in hospital 2 weeks later, then heavy duty anti-b's usually IV which work but of course a week in hospital has cost the NHS more, her dog has had to go into kennels and something which could have been cleared up in the first week has taken over 3. DD had pneumonia last autumn and likewise, the first course of meds had no impact. It is worrying. I was told I am eligible for my pneumonia jab, but oops they've run out and to try after Christmas!!

Galen Mon 11-Nov-13 21:19:17

knackered very tired. Difficult tribunal today. Log man didn't deliver as too wethmm (do logs shrink in the rain?) Git next door moaning as I've parked over the drain on the common parking area so he can't clean it? It's not blocked. Also stating that the guttering over his conservatory is half mine as both his and my dormers drain into it. He had several feet, I have about 18" but the downspout is on my side, it's blocked and it's a soak away! Grrrrrrrrr

Tegan Mon 11-Nov-13 21:36:30

They ran out of pneumonia vaccine last year as well [I think].

gracesmum Mon 11-Nov-13 22:18:20

Clear y the best thing is to hunker down in Soop's kitchen until the danger is past! But my heart goes out to your DD, GA, - one teething baby is bad enough but another poorly child means she has several hands full - and so frustrating for you not to be able to go and help. Fretting won't help though, best thing is to make sure you are as fit as you can be and then if and when you are needed again, you can be there, flowers

LizG Mon 11-Nov-13 22:43:32

Been out most of the day and have come back in to find many of you have had a rotten day. Just want to send big (((hugs))), flowers and wine to everyone and I hope tomorrow will be a much better. Mind you I went to the choral society and it was too soon after my cold. Ended up voiceless for the second half but a brandy, honey and lemon concoction has greatly improved things smile.

annodomini Mon 11-Nov-13 22:55:22

It's been a damp and gloomy Monday - bad for aches and pains - but tomorrow's forecast looks better. Let's write Monday off and hope for a better Tuesday.

grannyactivist Mon 11-Nov-13 23:11:11

Eventually husband and daughter decided that only a granny will do! So here I am with one tired daughter, one teething baby and a very wheezy, grunting grandson. If the grunting hasn't settled in an hour or so then it's off to the hospital. Pass the cake and a cuppa please - I think it's going to be a long night.

grannyactivist Tue 12-Nov-13 00:03:53

So now I'm here with the baby whilst my daughter is on the way to hospital with a gasping grandson. His poor tummy was working overtime trying to get air into his lungs. Having seen him like this last year I can reassure myself that once he's been on oxygen for a while and the medication kicks in he'll soon recover. My poor daughter is still recovering from appendicitis and has had several broken nights with teething baby, she's exhausted.

soop Tue 12-Nov-13 11:46:40

grannyactivist I'm so sorry to hear about your grandson. Your daughter certainly needs your support at this trying time. I hope that you return with better news later. In the meantime, I'm sending you sunshine and flowers

It appears that many of you are having a tough time what with one thing and another. All I can do for you is make you cosy and comfortable and play some relaxing music. Hot toddies all round. Thanks for the freshly made pretzels, Bez I shall add them to the date slices and flapjacks if that bags has left a tray full one or two. wink

Gracesmum your story made me guffaw. grin

Please may I do a brag? Thanks so much. My youngest son has won womens magazine editor of the year award. I'm right chuffed. blush

Need to dash. Back very soon. Take good care of each other. smile

soop Tue 12-Nov-13 12:34:50

Bez Birthday wishes for your daughter's 50th. How time flies! shock
