Hi all

The original thread has become too long and unwieldy so we're trying to streamline all the information to make it easier for everyone to keep up with what's going on.

There are two other threads for support and suggestions.

Please can you leave this thread free for those who have firm updates and links? Thanks so much. flowers

OMG.
Just read the FB page.

I am so so sorry for Carols family.

whenim64 Wed 06-Nov-13 11:42:57

So, so sorry. Carol's body has been found now. She fell. Matthew has announced on Facebook.

Those of us unable to give any practical help can feel connected by lighting a candle

whenim64 Wed 06-Nov-13 11:40:01

This is a kind update about the progress with candles, and it's having an effect because the word has spread to 22 countries. Those people are helping to keep up the momentum in getting the authorities to continue and intensify the search, which we know is happening. Please do keep up the call for the search to keep going.

MargaretX Wed 06-Nov-13 11:27:15

It does not belong on the up date page. We who click on it want an update

Candles (virtual or real) have no power to influence events.

inthefields Wed 06-Nov-13 10:42:46

Each candle for Carol burns for 48 hours, so if people lit a candle when the group opened on Sunday then they may want to consider lighting again today.
( thought this classed as an 'advisory' so hope no-one minds the inclusion here )

603 candles, from 22 countries, are now shining out as a beacon

It's already improving and this afternoon and the next couple of days are set to be good.
It's been awfully windy which I think is one if the biggest problems with regards to the search but that's died down now.
They were fortunate in having good weather for most if the day yesterday.

whenim64 Wed 06-Nov-13 09:55:15

Several weather sites for the area say it will turn to light rain, some sun this afternoon, then two sunny days.

annodomini Wed 06-Nov-13 09:30:06

Honeyball, what a pity. So many people willing the search to succeed, but the weather... well, let's hope it improves over the course of the day.

Ariadne Wed 06-Nov-13 09:03:59

Granjura is right to urge caution!

New day, new hope?

Honeyball Wed 06-Nov-13 07:37:13

The weather is absolutely atrocious this morning.
Hopefully with the army on board the bad weather won't affect the search too much.

whenim64 Wed 06-Nov-13 06:22:40

Good to read on Mumsnet that the army will be joining the search.

Anne58 Wed 06-Nov-13 00:00:06

Please, let the next post on here be positive and accurate news.

Much love to all.

Riverwalk - I am sure no one involved in raising awareness via the media went into it without a great deal of thought and caution, but it had to be done in full knowledge that it is a double edged sword & what results has to be managed. Those with experience of using media in the past can still be taken aback by how the less responsible media can behave, even at the expense of the people they purport to want to help.

Agus Tue 05-Nov-13 17:55:30

Very good point Granjura and, sadly, one we should all heed.

hummingbird Tue 05-Nov-13 15:48:28

Thank you When and Granjura for keeping us updated. flowers

Let's all be very careful on talking to any new member on this. Just talked to Police, no news.

whenim64 Tue 05-Nov-13 14:46:17

We can learn a litte from those celebs who know how to court and manipulate the press. Yes, we wanted their help, but not intrusion and distortion of information given. GNHQ manages press info for this site, thankfully.

Lona Tue 05-Nov-13 14:31:31

when I too have just had a pm from a DM reporter about another issue, which I've reported and blocked him.

whenim64 Tue 05-Nov-13 14:27:17

They are required to approach members through GNHQ, never directly.

Riverwalk Tue 05-Nov-13 14:15:30

Let's not be naive ...... for days we were imploring the press to take up the cause and the Daily Mail was the first national paper to step up to the plate (Carol will be horrified at that!).

We can't expect them to now take a back seat and not dig deeper.

Sup with the devil .... all in a good cause.

Ariadne Tue 05-Nov-13 14:05:17

And it is a salutary warning to us not to disclose too much personal stuff, especially when GN is in the news, as it is now.

whenim64 Tue 05-Nov-13 13:41:38

Yes, they do.

gracesmum Tue 05-Nov-13 13:39:39

Trust GNHQ also have the name to bar - but need to be alert.

whenim64 Tue 05-Nov-13 13:31:14

Watch out! Reporters on the prowl. One from Daily Mail has joined and pm'ed me about another issue, but it concerned me that this has happened, instead of approaching GNHQ, who now have his message. Please be wary.
