Hi all

The original thread has become too long and unwieldy so we're trying to streamline all the information to make it easier for everyone to keep up with what's going on.

There are two other threads for support and suggestions.

Please can you leave this thread free for those who have firm updates and links? Thanks so much. flowers

Local piste-users have got the news about Carol and are spreading the word. This was posted this afternoon:

At last. The local paper has the story. (Although the day is still wrong.)

Request from Carol's family. Can fluent French speakers please email or message this hiker's forum, please?

Mamie, the article in the Dauphine is so misleading- and I've just talked to the journalist to explain why. The local Adjudant and his deputy actually do think that it is concerning that a flat, which they finally went in yesterday only, show all the signs that she had not gone off for a longer trip or holiday on a whim (which we all knew... but was their impression- as she had left shutters closed, which is what local people do when they go away- but which I explained is what Carol always did when going out to preserve heat)- cereal bowl, spoon and mug in the sink in dishwash bowl, fresh food in the fridge, and bedsettee ruffled.

That's so helpful, and should help to narrow the search for Carol. I hope the mountain rescue people and police get this.

Mamie Sun 03-Nov-13 10:22:17

Yes the article worried me Granjura. Wrong day, concern about telephone but not email / Facebook, implication in the statement that she might have gone away. Hope they correct it and also hope it gets on the 19/20. The assumption about shutters is a classic isn't it?

Could one or more fluent French speakers please confirm that they can contact the visorando forum mentioned in my previous post, then I can let it go. Thanks.

On it, when

Mamie Sun 03-Nov-13 10:47:17

Have emailed visorando.

kalexie Sun 03-Nov-13 10:49:05

Yes, I've just posted a message on the visorando forum in the section relating to the Haute-Savoie region.

Galen Sun 03-Nov-13 10:56:46

Tried to message (basic French) but it wouldn't accept it.

Galen Sun 03-Nov-13 11:02:22

Done it! Very short though. Can speak French better than write.

A post on this fb page:

Has had a reply and a link to this media article, if it hasn't been seen already, would the French speakers check it for clarity?

Posted on the visorando thread, with more info. Will check other link now and get back.

Galen Sun 03-Nov-13 11:08:46

The article sounds good to me and says the police are checking parking and departure points for alpine walkers. I presume this means the starts of the mountain trails

granjura Sun 03-Nov-13 11:09:31

All OK on that site- have added a plea for all to look out for the car- so that searches can be launched for Carol.

Tegan Sun 03-Nov-13 11:21:23

At last the news is on the AOL news page.

shelby75 Sun 03-Nov-13 11:27:16

A very good article.

granjura Sun 03-Nov-13 13:25:37

Mamie, I contacted the journalist about the article by phone, and 'put her right' about Carol alwas phoning Fiona, always being on FB, and other Forums and e-mail to family. Also told her that in my discussions with the local Adjudant and his second in command, they were now sure that what they saw in the flat on Saturday persuaded them that it certainly looks as if Carol left the flat for a day trip and NOT for a holiday on a whim, in which case she would have done the washing-up and emptied the bowl, and emptied the fridge of fresh food. Why they did NOT actually go in earlier, I'll never know. But here we are. It is true that it is a custom to only close shutters when going on holiday or at least for few days.
