I wonder if she's had any children? Perhaps she wants some more and this is a substitute? wink

Flowerofthewest Wed 04-Dec-13 16:31:30

Until I read the link I was wondering how she held the needles 'down there'
tchgrin

Flowerofthewest Wed 04-Dec-13 16:33:16

Tampon art has been done.
I got bored and did not listen to everything she said. Still if there is a resurgence of feminism I suppose we should be glad and not scathing about the little sisters re-inventing vulva art, bless their cotton knickers. Slapped wrist imposed on self.

petallus Wed 04-Dec-13 17:46:11

She's not knitting with her vagina. It's just a handy place to keep the wool.

Yes, I agree with JessM. Bless!

janeainsworth Wed 04-Dec-13 17:49:58

Lona I once visited Walsall Art Gallery and there was a large chandelier-type thing suspended from the ceiling made of tampons shock
Fortunately it wasn't a Tracey Emin jobwink

Ana Wed 04-Dec-13 17:50:57

I didn't watch the video at all, I just read the article.

Elegran Wed 04-Dec-13 18:06:59

Someone should point her to Georgia O'Keefe, who does vulva art that actually looks like art.

GadaboutGran Wed 04-Dec-13 18:13:11

Did anyone else see the Judy Chicago 'Dinner Party' exhibition in Camden back in 1984/5? The dinner plates were beautiful celebrations of powerful women ignored then in history & used vaginal symbolism - shocking to many who never batted an eyelid at the phallic symbolism all around us.

Elegran Wed 04-Dec-13 18:24:59

Yes. a good display of the female point of view.

JessM Wed 04-Dec-13 18:57:46

I went to a wonderful exhibition a few years back in a modern art gallery in Malaga. The artist had collected a lot of stuff from mediterranean markets - plastic fish, rugs etc all very colourful - on the floor, on the walls and dangling from the ceiling. The theme of the exhibition was names (many of them mysogynistic) for female genitalia. In various languages. Loved it.

With regard to the issue of content, the disjunctive perturbation of the spatial relationships brings within the realm of its discourse the distinctive formal juxtapositions. It is somewhat troubling how the metaphorical resonance of the figurative-narrative line-space matrix notates the essentially transitional quality. Indeed the reductive quality of the yarn and the spatial relationships alluded to above threaten to penetrate the gaze of the onlooker, and it is this internal dynamic, the purity of the line, of the constructed plane / plain / pearl / purl which becomes reconfigured through calm practice and disturbs the tragedy of power, it becomes, over time, a new synthesis.

Ana Wed 04-Dec-13 19:59:14
