Junie you sound like a great daughter, your Mum is very lucky.

I used to be a volunteer at Age Concern and they have get together's, she might like that.

Tea Dances at Stockport Town Hall, if you are anywhere in the vicinity.

Have you checked the notice boards of your local library? We have the usual AgeUK and day care here but we also have a local volunteer run group for over 50's they have coffee mornings, day trips, film afternoons etc.

Do they still have tea dances?

Do you have a local Abbeyfield Home nearby? I believe they welcome non-residents in for lunches and activities.
Does the local church have a group? Also maybe she would like to go to U3A. Out local branch has a monthly lecture on a variety of topics and a film group where they watch DVDs.

What about the cinema, I know ours does a 'Silver Screen' on a weekday morning for retired people. Cheaper and free coffee or whatever drink you like.

Bingo! she may just like to atmosphere

Does she want to meet other people? Some do, some don't.

Is it that you, understandably, need a little respite time yourself?

Day centres are great if she likes being with others.

My mother of 95 would in her poetic words "wish me up the cats ass!" if I suggested she spent time with people her own age. She is too frail now to go far but we used to go to the theatre, out for lunch, National Trust, and London to perhaps the V&A if there something worth seeing

I suppose it depend where you live and what her interests are. I used to work with a group of elderly people in a day centre where many different activities were available ie craft, poetry, reminiscence groups etc. Maybe the local health centre or her GP could advise of something local.
